Art Project

The girls love the art table they got for Christmas from Albert and Kanisha.  While I was folding laundry on my bed, they pulled the table and chairs in my room and drew this picture together.

Ellie's abso-positively-lutely favorite show right now is Super Nanny.  She can correctly tell you all 7 steps of the Jo Frost Time Out Technique.  She is so concerned when the children on the episode are naughty.  She cheers when they learn how to behave acceptably.  It is quite interesting watching with her every night, right before we go to bed.

For the life of me, I cannot remember why this picture is significant.  I was changing Cece and the big girls were doing something cute -- something cute enough that I told Greg to take a picture on his phone -- and then I had to remember to hijack his phone a few days later to text myself the picture.

But, I've got nothing.

They sure look cute, though, and they were probably being exceptionally nice and doing exceptional things.

I have been a pretty consistent blogger since March 2008, but am starting to lose steam.   I am giving myself permission to do less this year.

I know why I do less.  When I started, I waxed philosophical on Tender Mercies and tried to paint a picture of our lives so that an expectant mom could read more about us than just our adoption profile.  And it worked.  Tayler connected with things I wrote and felt better informed to make her decision to choose us to parent Ellie.  Our relationship started more formally, and we had email communication and the blog.  I tried to post at least 4 times a week, and most of the time posted every day, to share all of Ellie's exciting developments.  And outfits.  I took a picture of Ellie in every. single. outfit she ever wore and posted it on the blog.

With {M} and Lynlee, I was in the groove.  Plus, the girls were good nappers.  Ellie was napping 2+ hours in the afternoon, and Lynlee slept about 23 hours a day for almost a year (not really, but it seemed that way).  We would play hard, and I would take pictures, and then I would use naptime to organize pictures and blog about our day.  The blog was my main form of communication with {M}.  We also texted, but I didn't really text pictures much.  I don't remember why -- did I not have a good data plan then? -- but it wasn't part of the way we rolled.  I was still posting 4-10 times a week.

With {R}, our relationship has been built on texting.  I don't know that we have ever exchanged an email, except for the invite to read her private blog and group invitations to events that I send to the whole family.  I text her pictures of Cece practically every day.  And then it seems anti-climatic to blog those same pictures.  Plus, Cece is not a good napper.  Partly due to her own rhythms, and partly due to the fact that she has older sisters and we always seem to be driving to drop them off or pick them up somewhere during naptime.  Once the girls are in bed at night, one of the last things I want to do is stare at the computer screen.

So those are my excuses reasons for the constant behind-ness in blogging lately.  My plan this year is to keep up on the Picture A Day blog (and it's fine if I get a couple of weeks behind) and to blog main events on Tender Mercies.  I will blog milestone events on my birth mom blogs and as well as all of our visits, but not copy and paste the Tender Mercies entries into their blogs (which is what I've gotten into the habit of doing).  I will do more on {R}'s blog, because Cece is still experiencing many milestones.  And I don't want her to grow up and only have 1 good year of a blog book when her sisters have multiple years.  As a fourth child with almost no baby pictures (and only a handful in my actual possession), I want to protect her from that experience :)

An Impromptu Concert

Ellie and Lynnie put on an impromptu concert for Cece and I.  It was fun to hear Ellie play the violin and hear Lynnie sing.  At one point, I was leaning backwards to take a picture and Cece totally mimicked me.  It was super cute.  And then, when Cece decided she had had enough, she crawled across the hallway to her bedroom and played by herself.

A Pirate. And A Climber.

Lynnie was very excited to dress up like a pirate and say, "argh, ladies!"  Cece climbed up one stair all by herself.

We were playing with the zebras that Aunt Jonette sent Cece for her birthday, and had to take pictures to send to Jonette.

Cece and I spend a lot of church hanging out in the stake wing.  It is quiet there, the chairs are comfortable, and I don't worry about Cece disturbing people when she cries.  She was pretty proud of herself for finding Lynnie's milk in the diaper bag and taking a drink of it.

Lynnie told me she was dressed as a cowgirl because she is wearing the boots and jean jacket we got for Philmont last summer.

Cece was so cute trying on hats.  The first time I put one on her head, she signed "hat."

I got really spoiled with Lynnie and her naps as a baby.  She could fall asleep anywhere, any time.  If she fell asleep at home, I could buckle in her car seat, drive to the store, transfer her to the cart, shop, put her back in the car, drive home, and put her back in her crib.

Cece is much more of a "normal" baby.  She likes it to be quiet when she naps.  She prefers her crib.  She likes two specific blankets to be with her when she sleeps.  If she falls asleep in the car, she wakes up the second the car is turned off.

In fact, one of the key indicators to me of when Cece started hearing us was when she started getting woken up from her naps by the rest of us talking or the girls playing.

All of this background just goes in to this picture:  Cece fell asleep in the van and she really needed a nap.  I tried to carefully put her in a bed in the shopping cart, and she was having none of it.

One of Cece's favorite foods is a banana.  I have always given it to her in a silicone feeder, but decided to just go for it and give her a hunk of banana.  Um, yeah.  Wrong decision.  Let's just say we had an extra bath and caught up on some laundry after breakfast.

The girls love to play "hair cutter." Ellie loved doing Cece's hair, and Cece was very patient with the whole process.

Cecilia's outfit was lovingly chosen by that famous designer, Lynnie Lu.  When asked how she created this outfit, Lynnie Lu replied, "I liked how the blues went together."

Back in the Classroom

I have not taught at the U in person since Lynnie was a newborn.  She was born November 8, my friend Beth covered for me for a couple of weeks, and the semester was over.  I get asked almost every semester if I am ready to come back, and I always say no.  I am happy teaching my one online class and doing everything from home.  But this semester, my department had an offer I was excited about -- teaching at the Sandy campus on whatever night I wanted.  I talked to my mom and she got on board to babysit, and the best night for her was Thursdays.

Tonight was the first night of the semester and it was fun to be back.  A little weird, but mostly fun.  The biggest thing was that I was clearly out of practice and did not have my stock of funny stories and anecdotes dialed up.  Plus, there are 23 registered students and I am used to teaching 100+ at a time.  It changes how I interact to have so few.

We love cousins!  We had an impromptu playdate with Emily (I needed to drop something off for Tanya and they were home) and then Ky came over.  We managed to convince her to stay for dinner, and Ellie even talked Ky into giving her a bath.  Ellie put on her new zebra leotard and gave us a dance show, and she wanted to do a plie for the pictures.

Mom, can I wear my shoes from Albert today?  You know why?  Cause I want to look good!

Monday, January 12, 2015

Cece usually goes to bed between 6:15-6:30, which means she invariably misses Family Home Evening.  Today she had a late nap and didn't wake up until after 4.  That meant she was still awake for FHE and she had a lot of fun giggling at her big sisters' antics.

Emma's Christmas

Jonette sent us home last night with a present -- a copy of the book Emma's Christmas.  We read it with our pancakes this morning, and it was a great story.  It is a retelling of the 12 Days of Christmas song, where poor Emma ends up with 12 partridges and 12 pear trees, and something like 200 egg laying birds (turtle doves, geese, swans, etc.).

Kyle and Jonette

Kyle, Jonette, Kiera, and Kaysen had been in Cedar City helping Kylene pack up her stuff in preparation for a big move to Salt Lake.  Ky is all graduated and has a fancy accounting job lined up with a firm downtown.  K, J, K, and K drove Ky's things up and then had some time to hang out before finishing their trip to Montana the next day.  We always love any excuse to get to see them!

Ellie was so excited that Davis gave her this necklace, and that it was in uniform colors so she could wear it to school.  She was not, however, excited that I wanted to take a picture.

Sweet View

Cece often falls asleep in the van when we go to pick up Ellie from school.  I never get tired of this sweet view!
And yes, I was parked in the pick-up lane at school when I took this picture.

We really miss our friends Elizabeth, Davis, and Callie.  Davis is Ellie's first friend, and Elizabeth and I used to spend hours every month hanging out and letting the babies play.  We have gone on adventures together, bought passes to Thanksgiving Point together, and spent hours at Cabela's together.  But life moves on, and friends move away.  Luckily, these special friends are only in Kaysville, and we planned a play date to see their awesome new house.

It was so much fun to reconnect, and it was like no time had passed since we had last seen them.  And the best part?  Santa brought them a bounce house for Christmas and it was in their basement.

A bounce house.

Ellie loved jumping in there!  Lynnie preferred riding Callie's tricycle and the roller coaster.
Ellie packed her fancy dress and changed in the van after I picked her up from school.  She wanted to look beautiful since she and Davis are still engaged.

{R} gave Ellie and Lynnie heart boxes in a kit -- they got to decorate their boxes and glue on jewels.  Pretty fancy stuff.  Lynnie knew that Cece would try to play with her sparkly box, so she built a fort around it and gave it animal guards.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to stop Cece, who is so curious about everything and just wants to play with whatever Lynnie is playing with.

Look At Me

Look at me, I am such a big girl sitting in this chair.  Lynnie, why won't you look at me?  I want you to notice how big I am!

New Primary Classes

Ellie and Lynnie were very excited to start their new Primary classes.  Ellie is now a CTR 5 and Lynnie is a CTR 4.  Ellie's teacher moved up with the class (awesome!) and Lynnie's teacher is our neighbor and my visiting teacher, so Lynnie already knows her and is comfortable with her (even more awesome!).  There was a rough transition for Lynnie Lu, though, because she fell asleep in Sacrament Meeting (drat 1 p.m. church) and had a hard time waking up.  Luckily, Daddy was in our ward today and was able to sit with Lynnie through Sharing Time and for the first half of her class.  Lynnie came home very excited about her CTR shield.

Mom hosted a dinner tonight since Robyn and Kevin are in town.  I was struck with memories of this timer, which was the timer my mom used my entire childhood.  I asked Mom how old it was, and she said she thinks it was a wedding present, so it is about 45 years old.  And it still works just fine.

Saying Good-Bye to Daddy

Lots of hugs for Daddy as he left for work this morning.

Elsa & Anna

When Tayler asked for some ideas for a gift for the girls for Christmas, I thought I was giving her something easy by suggesting the Barbie style dolls of Elsa and Anna.  But it wasn't easy at all.  She spent so much time tracking down these dolls, just because she knew the girls wanted them.  Seriously the best birth mom ever!

Ellie came up with this creative way of displaying them.  They stayed this way for a few days, since the girls mostly wear dresses out of their closet and we don't open the dresser drawers very often.
