New Years Eve

Grandma just got back from almost a month in Oman with Amy.  She was so generous and brought lots of presents for the girls, including these darling Indian outfits.  Lynnie's pants were super small (maybe mislabelled?) but everything else was perfect.

Stocking Stuffer

Ellie got this puzzle game in her stocking.  She has loved solving all of the levels.

Library Day

We love going to the library!  Lynnie was in heaven to find Star Wars books.

Secret Spot

Lynnie loves to sit behind the couch on the heat vent.  And Cece loves to be anywhere Lynnie is.

Cousin Eddie Hat

Growing up, the Spencers watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation every year, and quoted the movie to each other all year long.  Greg found a Cousin Eddie hat on Amazon a couple of days before the Spencer White Elephant Party, and I ordered and paid for over night shipping.  Greg had big plans to come to the party dressed as Cousin Eddie.  It would have been epic!

By 5 p.m., the package tracking showed that it was in West Valley.  It was guaranteed delivery by 8.  Around 7:30, Greg slipped out of the party, taking Cece home, giving her a bath, and putting her in pajamas.  By 8:15, he gave up and came back to the party.

The hat was delivered the next morning around 11.  Ellie was the first one to try it on.

Amazon offered me a digital download of Kung Fu Panda as an apology for missing the delivery window.  That was a nice gesture.

Greg will just have to be Cousin Eddie next year.

Matching PJs

I gave the girls their Christmas PJs at the party with Tayler last night, because I also gave Piper a pair so all four of them match.  They wanted to wear them immediately, but I didn't get a picture until this morning.

Christmas Visit With Tayler

One of our favorite days of the year -- hanging out with Tayler and her family.  We ate dinner, and opened Christmas presents, and talked.  After they left, Greg and Ellie snuggled up on the couch and they both fell asleep.  They were both there when Cece woke me up for her midnight bottle.

Washer Woes

Our upstairs washing machine was flashing the error code "ND" for No Drain.  I cleaned out the filter on the front but it still wasn't working.  Greg pulled open the back at 11 p.m. after he got home from his game.  He got a lot of water to drain out of the back.  An hour later, and we concluded that we needed to call in an expert on Monday.  Good thing we have another washer and dryer in the basement!

Cece would not settle today when I put her down for a nap.  When I peeked in at her, I saw that she had thrown everything out of her bed.  Contrast this with the sleeping picture from a few days ago -- haha!

Christmas Package

Lynlee was very excited to help me wrap presents for {M} and her family.  We got everything ready to mail for Christmas.

Almost nothing is as cute as Cece running up to me, signing PAINT, and then running back to where we keep the paint.  She knows what she wants to do, and she goes for it.

Peak ENT

Greg, Lynnie, Cece and I had an appointment today with an audiologist and a surgeon to discuss Cece's upcoming Cochlear Implant surgery.  This is the start of an important journey.

I get my blogs printed every year and use the platform.  It is quick and easy and I've been happy with the final product.  I must have printed over 25 books, with multiple copies of most of them -- copies for me & Greg, birth moms, and the girls.  For the first time, when I opened my package for my Picture a Day book, there was a goof.  It was my info on the cover and someone else's content inside.  The customer service was excellent and efficient, printing a replacement book and overnighting it me.

Shrinky Dinks

Aunt Jonette sent a Shrinky Dink kit to Lynlee for her birthday.  We put it with our craft supplies and didn't get it pulled out until today.  Once we did the first batch, the girls were hooked and loved making every single one in the kit.

Beef Delivery

Paul delivered 1 1/2 cows to me today and I had fun helping my friends sort it in to 1/8 portions (what most people bought from us).  My friend Ashli wanted to know how much space she needed to clear out of her freezer, so I snapped this picture to show what it looked like.  This year the cows were smaller than expected, but an 1/8 got you 22 pound-and-a-half packages of ground beef and 10 packages of roasts and steaks.

We love making slime!  It is so easy and provides hours of fun.  The recipe we use is here:

  1. In one bowl mix 1/2 cup (4 oz) glue and 1/2 cup water. Add food coloring if you want colored slime.
  2. In the other bowl, mix 1 teaspoon borax with 1 cup water until the borax is dissolved.
  3. Add the glue mixture to the borax solution, stirring slowly.
  4. The slime will begin to form immediately; stir as much as you can, then dig in and knead it with your hands until it gets less sticky. (No one makes slime without getting a little messy!) Don't worry about any leftover water in the bowl; just pour it out.

Christmas Cards

I was on top of things this year and got our Christmas cards out early.  Early for us, anyway!

Sleeping Lulu

We've really struggled for a while now to get Lulu to sleep all night in her own bed.  She will generally wake up sometime between 2-5 a.m. to go potty, and then wants to come in our bed.  We are trying out having her sleep in the hallway as a solution.  It just wakes me up more than I want to drag blankets off of her bed and make up a little space in the hallway.  We'll see how it goes.

I love how you can see Ellie getting ready in the bathroom for school.

Sunday, December 6, 2015

Cece has become very opinionated about what needs to be in her bed when she goes to sleep.  Her favorites lately are Barbies and a teddy bear.

Violin Recital

We got home from the airport with about an hour to spare, before collecting the girls and heading to their violin recital.  This year, Lynlee shook the jingle bells, and Ellie played Jingle Bells, Jolly Old St Nicholas, O Come Little Children, and Joy to the World.

Greg and I attended the Money Mailer convention in San Diego.  The hotel was gorgeous and right on the harbor.  This is the beautiful view from our room.

Ellie created a great feedback letter for the parents of her student while she was playing school:

For quite a few years, we have purchased either a 1/4 or a 1/2 a cow from a friend of Paul's who lives in Roosevelt.  Sometimes the Spencers don't want enough to make up the rest of cow #2 or cow #3, so I get to offer some to friends.  This year, I took a picture of our freezer to try and show how much 1/4 is.  The picture doesn't really give you a good scale.  But it is a reminder of how much we love the fresh, good beef we get every year.  I cannot eat beef anywhere else because I am spoiled with the delicious flavor of what we get.

Sunday morning, Ellie had the idea to make perler beads for her Primary class.  She quickly thought of everyone's names, and made 6 boy things and 6 girl things -- all original patterns.  My favorites are the eyeball and the magic wand.  Then she packaged them up and brought them with her to church to give away.
Alien, Boat, Raspberry, Sun
Robot, Rocket Ship, Rainbow, Magic Wand
Turtle, Eyeball, Flower, Grape

Perler Bead Princess

Ellie has been on a perler bead binge today, and she made so many creations.  Some following a pattern (the princesses) and some of her own imagining (all the rest).

Making Mashed Potatoes

Cece sat on the counter and stirred the potato pot, and pulled the potatoes out with spoon, and splashed them back in the pot, for over an hour.  She was completely soaked through by the time she was done! And she managed to do it all while jabbering on her phone.

Brush Teeth

Cece loves to brush her teeth.  She will brush 3-7 times a day.  And sometimes she will let me put a clip or a headband in her hair, where it lasts approximately 7.2 minutes.  This morning, she put her headband in all by herself and wore it for about half an hour.

Fun Times

Cece likes to stand on a stool by me and get ready in the morning.  And sometimes, you just need to go swimming in the big tub.

Birth Mom Love

This is one of the amazing benefits of open adoption.  Ellie was playing a game on my phone while home sick from school and decided to text Tayler.  Tayler immediately texted back a sweet message.  I love to watch these two interact and share love with each other.

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

Being sick is no fun.  All three girls have been throwing up and running fevers.  Cece was on her 4th bath before 7 a.m.  Poor girls!

Morning Ritual

On school days, Greg drives Ellie to school.  They love those 5 precious minutes in the car.  Lynnie and Cece, after giving hugs and kisses, stand by the door way and wave.  Cece will blow kisses to the car, and Lynnie will usually yell something like, "good-bye, elephant!"  Greg will roll down his window and wave back and yell something like, "good-bye, giraffe!"  The morning is not complete without this ritual.

Ellie's Talk

Ellie was asked to give a talk in this year's Primary Program.  She was the youngest of the three children who give talks, and she did an awesome job.  She wrote her talk all by herself.

In my family, we like to go to church and listen to Sacrament Meeting.  When we go home at night we read our scriptures.  When we go to bed, we say our prayers.  This is how we show Heavenly Father that we love Him.  I love my family.  I love my Primary class and my teachers.  I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Birthday Party at the Aquarium

So much fun to celebrate Lynlee's birthday at the aquarium with her birth dad and his girlfriend.

Daniel Tiger

Ellie knows how to download apps.  She is really good about deleting an app she doesn't want to play any more and then going to the "purchased-not on this ipad" part of the app store to "record" something different.  One app that has stuck around for a long time is the Daniel Tiger app.  All three girls like to play it.

Alarm Clock

Ellie loves to be independent.  One way is that she sets her own alarm clock for school mornings for 7:06.  She wakes up, goes potty, gets dressed, brushes her hair and teeth, and comes out all ready for breakfast.
