Cece's Photo Shoot

Last night, Sister Jensen and Sister Simpson came over on an "official" Relief Society visit, to bring Cecilia a gift.  Candace is an amazing professional photographer (Elegant Images), and she asked me how old Cece is.  When I said 8 days, she said I only had 2 more days to get the best newborn shots.  And then she said, "are you coming over tomorrow?"  Well, I guess so!

Here is a little iPhone preview of her amazing work.

Both of My Babies

Lynnie really hit her stride with Cece today, holding her five times.  This time, she told me, "look, Mom, I'm holding both of my babies!"

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

We've had a steady stream of visitors around here, and I love it!  Tonight, our friend Brittany brought us dinner and stayed to hold Cece and chat for awhile.  Her son Brody kept Ellie and Lynnie very well entertained.

Another Success

Lynnie held Cece again today -- for the second time -- and helped feed her milk.  Great job, helper!

Ellie is glued to Cece.  Every waking moment!

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Some of our friends from our student days at Montana State University-Bozeman were in town and stopped by to meet Cece and Lynnie and Ellie.  We haven't seen them in years! We were friends as newlyweds.  Now they have six children, and the oldest is a senior in high school.

Adrianna was holding Cece and Lynnie went and washed her hands, then went over to "touch the baby."  Not knowing Lynnie's reluctance to claim Cece, Adrianna asked her if she wanted to hold the baby.  Lynnie said, "Sure!" and climbed on the couch.

Lynnie's first time holding Cece was a success!

Meeting Cece

Ellie and Lynnie were so excited to meet Cece!

One of my friends described today as the least favorite day for certain reasons, and the favorite day for other reasons.  That sums it up perfectly for me.  We feel so much joy and love, and also pain and grief for {R} and her family, and the loss that they are experiencing today.

I Was Chosen

My friend Amy posted this graphic to my timeline on Facebook, and it perfectly captures how I feel about adoption.

Frozen. Take 3.

We went to see Frozen -- again -- today.  This time it was Mom-Julie's idea, and of course we wanted to spend time with her and Hailey!  Ellie was very excited.  She picked her blue nightgown because it looks the most like Elsa's dress, and she wore a crown and her silver sparkly shoes.  Ellie sat in between Julie and Hailey and sang along to all of the songs.  It was darling.  Lynnie was my snuggler and sat on my lap the whole time.  A few times, Hailey tried to get Lynnie to sit on her lap, but Lynnie was having none of it!

Growed Up

The girls were eating dinner when Greg got home from his meetings, so Ellie got done before Greg was done with his dinner.  She very excitedly said, "Dad, how about if I clean up all. by. myself!  It will be a surprise for you!!!"  She then proceeded to clean up her room (kind of a mess since we played with magnetic dolls for over an hour and had dumped, sorted, and strewn about all of the outfits for the four dolls we have), make her bed, and clean up most of the family room.  I asked a few times if Lynnie and I could help, and she told me no because she was growed up and could do everything.

Giddy Up, Horsey!

Lulu thought she was pretty hilarious, climbing on Ellie's back and saying, "giddy up, horsey!"

We met with {R} this afternoon, along with both of our caseworkers,  to talk about {R}s birth plan and how she wanted things to go.  We also "formalized" some of our relationship, making sure there are clear expectations for openness moving forward.  I had taken some cute pictures of {R} when she was at our house for dinner last Sunday, but when I saw her outfit, I asked if I could take some more.  This outfit will match the "zebrafied" nursery perfectly!

Ellie made another Olaf this morning.  Out of toilet paper.

Flour Convert

We are beyond excited that Tayler and Piper signed up to take Kindermusik with us this semester.  They will come to the Mommy & Me class with Lynlee and I, then (when they can, and hopefully every week!) come to our house for lunch and to play for an hour before Ellie goes to her class.

This morning, Ellie didn't want to go to preschool, because she was so excited to see Tayler.  She kept on telling me she just wanted to go to our class with us.  It made our hour lunch that much more special because she was over-the-moon happy!

At Kindermusik, Piper did great.  At one point, the girls were dancing, and then Piper wandered over and sat down on my lap.  Lynnie turned around and kind of freaked out.  She sat next to me on the floor, and wouldn't sit my other leg.  In a couple of minutes, Piper moved on to something else.  Lynnie immediately stood up, put her hands on my shoulders, and very seriously told me, "I want to sit on both laps!"  Then she turned around, plopped down, and spread her legs across both of my knees.

It gave me a glimpse into the transition in store next week when Shooting Star Dolphin comes to stay!  (Shooting Star Dolphin is what E & L want to name the new baby.)

At lunch, Lynnie liked sitting next to Piper, until Piper tried to take her flour.  We got Piper her own bowl, and Piper ate at least 7 bites.  Lynnie made a flour convert!

Ah, Kanarraville.  I have never been to visit you before, but I love to hear about you.  Ever since Elder Holland gave his talk about his car breaking down a few miles from Kanarraville.  It was exciting to drive past the sign on our way home from St. George.

How Old Is She?

I love the juxtaposition in this picture.  Ellie looks so grown up in her coat, with her headphones on, totally working the iPod.  And she is holding Lambie.  We are St. George bound for our last adventure as a family of four!

Lynlee's Note

Lynlee came home with this super cute note from the Primary Presidency.  Good job, big girl!

New Counters

We stopped by today to see Greg's parents new kitchen counters.  They had the water pipe leading to their fridge burst, and it has snowballed into a fairly substantial renovation.  The floors were damaged enough that they needed to be replaced, which meant the cabinets needed to be removed, which broke the counters, which lead to...  It's been an adventure!  The new granite countertops are beautiful.

Sweet Moments

It is little moments like this that make my day sweet.  Ellie and her friend were in full-on pretend mode, playing with their dolls and the dollhouse.  Lynnie and I were building puzzles, and she was just chattering away.  Everyone was happy.  Everyone was speaking kindly.

It was heaven on earth!

We headed north in a snowstorm to play with Elizabeth, Davis, and Callie.  It has been too long since we have seen them, and we miss them!  Before we left, I overheard this conversation:

Ellie: I'm going to see my husband today!

Lynnie:  I want to marry Davis.

Ellie:  Remember, YOU are going to marry Eli.  I am going to marry Davis.

Lynnie:  No, I want to marry Davis.

Ellie:  Well, we can't BOTH marry Davis!!!

Davis totally rocked his Mario costume.  Love it!

Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?

It's our first ever snowman.  Ellie remembered it, so we used the snowman kit that Mom-Julie handed down to us.  The best part?  The girls totally thought the snowman was Olaf.

Lynnie's First Dance Class

And she did awesome!  She loved every second of it.

Monday, January 6, 2014

After the big announcement we got yesterday (that baby girl #3 is coming -- and soon!), the girls and I hit Target to do a little shopping.  Our birth mom {R} loves animal prints, so we hunted out everything on sale that we could find.  And we are toying with making the new baby's color hot pink, so we found a super soft hot pink blanket.  Not sure I'm completely sure about that yet, so the blanket may go back.  Lynnie insisted that we get the new baby hair bows.

Today is the day!  Lynlee is a Sunbeam and Ellie is a CTR 4.  These rock stars were totally ready for their new adventures.

In Charge

Ellie wanted to be in charge of reading the scriptures tonight.  She would not let me help her at all.  And she probably got about 2/3rds of the words correct!  She is super smart--and totally gets that from her birth mom.

I also love that you can see in the background that the girls picked their birth story books to read as our bedtime stories tonight.  We love their birth moms!

Turtle Necklace

Best. Day.

Ellie saw that Alanna's cars were home when we got home, so she ran across the street to see if Alanna could play.  A few minutes over, she came tearing in the house to see if she could go to the Dinosaur Museum with Alanna and her family.

And she came home sporting this awesome turtle necklace that Alanna's mom got for her (and wouldn't let her pay with the money in her pocket).

Rough Night

We have had a rough night. It started when Ellie crawled in our bed around 12:30, "because I need to snuggle daddy."

(Greg always falls for that line.)

I tried to put her back in her bed around 1:30 and she freaked out. After calming her down and some more negotiation, she came to snuggle for five more minutes. Then Lynlee woke up at 2 after having a little accident. She had gotten herself woken up fairly quickly, and only 'leaked' a little.  After a potty trip and getting her calmed down (she was sad--accidents are extremely rare and disorienting in the middle of the night), I temporarily put her in bed so I could strip her bed. And realized that the other set of their sheets was in the bottom of the hamper.

At this point, I know it's a family bed kind of night! Except that Lynlee has staked her claim by the time I got back: she is upside down and has her feet on my pillow. I kind of get her scootched over and laid down, where I got kicked a lot over the next half hour. I finally abandoned the bed around 3 and switched to the couch. Greg woke me up at 6, because Ellie had been awake for about an hour and wouldn't stop poking him. He got in the bathtub and I tried to go back to bed.

More talking and rolling around by both girls for about an hour before Ellie drifted back off. Around 7:30 it was declared 'daytime' and I got Lynnie some milk. (She is doing GREAT at only drinking milk in the day and not drinking it in the middle of the night anymore.) and then Lynnie took another half hour nap.

The upside of our rough night? This darling picture of the girls snuggling together. They truly are the best of friends!

Rod, Jayme, Jasmine, Byron, and brand new baby Virgil came and hung out on New Year's Day (along with Tammy & Andrew).  B and Lynnie played outside for a long time.  B was so proud of the footprints he made in the snow, and Lynnie loved scooping snow into the bucket.
