Vanilla Bean

On our family date night last night, we bought an ice cream maker.  Perusing the recipe book that was included made our mouths water, and sent Greg and the girls to the store to get some fancy ingredients we have never bought before (e.g., mascarpone cheese and vanilla beans).

Luckily, I have watched enough episodes of Chopped and The Pioneer Woman Cooks to know exactly how to split open the vanilla bean and scrape out the caviar.

And the pistachio ice cream we made with it was heavenly.
