Happy Birthday, Ilene!

Ilene turned 40 today, and the BCLs celebrated with a birthday breakfast at Kneaders.

I love the girls' outfits in this picture:

Lynnie is wearing a "belt" made out of headbands, and her dancing slippers.

Ellie has been pretending to be at the beach, and her "towel" is the blanket that Grandma Linda made for her and sent home with her from the hospital.

Going Camping

Hope and Ellie went camping, complete with a tent and marshmallow roasting.

Miss Traci is pretty nice to facilitate this pretend play!

Eye Patch Free!

Had a great check-up at the ophthalmologist today and Dr. Young declared Lynlee patch-free!

At least until our December appointment, when she will reevaluate.

Lynnie loves to eat frozen blueberries.  She tells me, "they're tasty!  Yummy in my tummy."

Listening to Brayden

The girls and I went to hear Brayden give a talk in Sacrament Meeting today.  His parents had him scheduled well--home on Thursday, 7 Peaks on Friday, BBQ on Saturday, speak on Sunday, start the semester at UVU on Monday.

He started with a funny joke.  He said, "You know that all Mormon talks have to start with a joke, like "it's good to be here" or a story on how you got asked to speak."

I loved looking over everyone who was there to listen and marvel at how everyone mixed up and sat all together.  We sat next to Jace, Kyralyn, Grandpa, and Grandma.

I also loved how gentle Jace is and how well he kept the 3 little girls entertained.  It just goes to show that you are never to old to play.

First Primary Party

And the girls were in heaven because they got to see their friends.  And share a cookie.

Haircut. Again.

We were talking about what we needed to do today, and Ellie said, "I need a haircut again.  My hair is growed and it is long again.  I want it medium."

Greg chimed in, "if you come to the Great Clips by my work I can slip over and meet you.  I want to see your haircut!"

Our plan was set.

Ellie was beyond excited that Daddy would come and watch her get her hair cut.  And then I felt good about getting my hair cut as well, since Greg was there to entertain Lynnie.

Beach Day

We hit the beach again, and realized it has been too long since we have been there!  We spent almost three hours wading, swimming, and digging in the sand.  It was a wonderful afternoon.

Let's Show Daddy

Ellie wanted to show Daddy a picture of the new underwear we got today (for when she is bigger).  So I snapped a picture and texted it.

Stake Conference

This weekend has been the President's first Stake Conference with the Lehi Utah Pheasant Pointe Stake.  He prepared six talks/trainings/lessons and did a fantastic job.

I was thinking last night at the adult session while I was listening to his talk that I almost never see him in his stake president role"  And while he is in that role, he is still Greg, still my husband, still daddy.

And yet he is so much more.  I can see the mantle of the calling on him.

And I can see him channeling his inner Virg.

I love that Greg had such good training and an amazing example in his father.

And I especially love the example of love, kindness, and willingness to follow the Lord that Greg demonstrates every day.  It is an honor to be his wife.

There were good Halloween costumes at Costco today, and we snatched some right up.  You never know how long they will last!  Ellie was so excited to pick Tangled, and Lynnie was excited to pick Snow White.

The Hogle Zoo

Our first time at the zoo, and I would never have attempted it without Sarah there to help!  Thanks to the best niece -- and thanks to Lyssa, who orchestrated the event so we could eat lunch with her (and take advantage of her employee discount).

Mom, Look at Me!

"Mom, look at me!  I'm ready for Wood Badge."

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

I love texts like this:

"I'm thinking of going to the aquarium.  Want to come?"

"What time?"

"In an hour or two."

"We will meet you there!"
P.S.  Aunt Amy, notice the backpack Ellie is wearing.  She carried it the whole time, packed full of things for her doll.

Lynlee fell asleep in the car on the way to Macey's, and she completely zoned through our trip.

Goodbye Amy!

Our monthly family dinner was also Amy's last night in Utah.

Lyssa and Lynlee had some good snuggles.

Final Gilwell

Our final flag ceremony, held at Gilwell Field, was outstanding (like always).  It's been a good week at Wood Badge!

Conservation Project

We did a great conservation project, helping to put in an ampitheater at our camp.

Renee is a beast.  She is the only woman who lasted the whole two and a half hours shoveling and digging down hillside to put in benches.

Outdoor Experience

It's nice to be a girl.

As part of Wood Badge, the boys moved their tents into the woods for a couple of nights.  I like camping in the woods, but it was good not to have to pack up all my stuff and carry it into the woods.

Love It

Love coming home and finding all of these pictures on the iPad.  Clearly, Ellie and Hailey had an awesome time tonight while Greg was at meetings!

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

One of the best parts of being at Wood Badge was camping and being able to appreciate this view from the patio (where we ate all of our meals).

Headed to Wood Badge

Greg came home from his Wood Badge course (a Scout leadership course)inspired and excited for me to experience it as well.  Renee and I had the chance to go together, and it was awesome!

New Foods

Ellie has been telling us for a while that she would try more foods when she got older.  Yesterday she tried 4 new things, a grilled cheese sandwich, a soft pretzel, italian sausage, and lasagna.  She liked them all!

Ellie asked to eat a "gill king sam-which" after watching Lynnie eat one for lunch.  While she was eating, Ellie asked me, "is there bread in here?"

I replied, "what do you think?"

"Yep, and I like it!"

She asked for a grilled cheese sandwich for her birthday breakfast today.

You betcha!  Coming right up!
Ellie was also very excited to decorate her jewelry box (given by Megan).

Happy birthday, baby!  I am so glad you are 4.

Friend Birthday Party

Oh, you know.  Just decorating some cupcakes at Ellie's first friend birthday party.

Sure am glad Davis came to represent the boys!

No, My Tayler!

We were driving to Walmart to pick up some things for Ellie's friend birthday party tomorrow, and I got a call from Taylor, who is going to babysit the girls this evening.  We had a brief conversation and I hung up.

Ellie got so excited and said, "Was that my Tayler?"

I replied, "No, that was the other Taylor."

Ellie burst into tears and said, "But I want to talk to my Tayler!  My birth mom Tayler.  Not the other Taylor!"
Taylor and her BFF

Later, after I was done driving and we were back home, I had to text Tayler and tell her.  She replied, "That's so sweet!  Give her a big hug and kiss for me!"

And Ellie grabbed my phone and read the text.  The only word she struggled with was give.

So of course I had to tell Tayler that, and she said, "Ellie!  Your getting so big!  And so smart!  Your just growing up so fast!  I love you sweetheart!!"

I am so grateful for good babysitters.

And especially for amazing birth moms.  And open adoption.  I cannot imagine our life without Tayler in it!

We were at my mom's house again today to help Amy with more painting.  To my surprise, Shelley, Travis, and Amber walked in!  Shelley was bringing the kids for summer visitation, and stopped by to see Amy.  I haven't seen Shelley since she and Jon divorced, and before Ellie was born, so it's been 5 years?

It was wonderful to get a little caught up in person.  Much better than just reading Facebook posts.  And Shelley paid me the nicest compliment.

She said, "motherhood agrees with you."

I hope she's right.  I sure love being a mother!

and I forgot to take a picture (my excuse is that I was covered in paint), so I just stole one from Facebook
