"Utah" Hymns

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, we didn't sing the "Utah" hymns.

Like, ever.

I don't know if I have ever sung this hymn in church before.  Our ward got back from a trek to Willie Junction and Martin's Cove yesterday, so we sang all pioneer hymns today.  It was a real treat!

Photo & Video Shoot

We spent 5 magical hours with Kristen and Andy of Shadetree Studios getting footage for a video about our family.  It's a new concept Kristen developed--basically putting our adoption profile into a two and half minute video.

Kristen has already spent hours on this project, meeting with me for a consultation, and emailing back and forth to set up shot lists and create a script for our narrative.  And I can't even imagine how many more hours it will take to create the video itself!

I won this package as part of a giveaway on United For Adoption, and it has been an amazing experience.

Today, Kristen and her husband Andy came at 3:30 to get everything set up.  Cute Katie came to entertain the girls while Greg and I recorded the audio that will be the overlay on the video.  I got really nervous and pretty much choked.  I had a hard time sounding natural.  It will be interesting to see how it turns out after it is edited.

Then Tayler came to be photographed interacting with Ellie and our family.  I am so grateful that we got to see her, and especially grateful that she brought Josh and Piper!  We love to see their whole family.  It was a double bonus because it is Josh' birthday.  So nice that we were able to spend some time with them.

After Tayler and her family left, we got a few more "lifestyle" pictures done (like playing the piano with Lynlee, and reading a book, and dancing and singing), and then headed for Kristen's family's "farm" right by the Jordan River Temple.  The girls were so excited to see the farm, and we spotted a couple of cats, and some cows and some horses.

What a good afternoon!  The girls were amazing and really good sports, especially considering we were busy right through dinner (didn't eat until after 7) and out photgraphing until 8:30 (way past their bedtime).  Plus, we kept on asking them to do the same thing over and over again.  Ellie ran up to Tayler and gave her a hug (pretending that Tayler had just come through the front door) about 7 times before she was done with that.

We were so busy doing our thing that I only took one picture of the whole thing:  the set-up.  I left the rest of the photography to the professionals (which is how it should be).  I cannot wait to see how the final product turns out!

Pretending to Sleep

The girls were having a great time today, giggling and laughing, as they pretended to take a nap behind the chair in the master bedroom.

Last Swimming Lesson

Today was Ellie's last swimming lesson for this year.  She liked it and had fun exploring the water.  She is not water-safe yet, but it is time for a break.

Refrigerator Repair

About a week ago, there was some water on the floor, and I thought a cup got spilled or an ice cube melted.  I cleaned it up and didn't think about it again.

Until the next morning, when a couple of boards kind of tripped me up because the edges had curled up.  And later that day when there was a giant puddle on the floor.

We called a repairman and he came out the next day and determined that the drip pan on the bottom of the fridge was leaking.  A new part was ordered, and he came back today to install it.  It made me nervous to watch him tip the fridge up until it was resting on the cabinets.  I was worried it would fall on his head or pull the cabinets off of the wall.

But it all worked out.

And now there is no more dripping.

Now I just hope the wood floor will dry out enough over time that the edges of the boards will lay back down.  Otherwise we will have to have the floor sanded and stained again.

Second to Last Swimming Lesson

The girls often do sweet things that melt my heart.  In the few seconds it took to walk to the car after Ellie's swimming lessons, they spontaneously held hands.  Ellie told Lynnie, "Baby Gookie, come with Mama.  I will hold your hand!"  Then they stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and gave each other a huge hug.

Make-Up Dance Class

Ellie had a make-up dance class today, and she was not excited to go.  At all.  She pretended to be sick and didn't want to put on her leotard.

I kept on thinking, this is a problem.  It's only her second class!

She finally decided it would be OK to go and we quickly loaded up and got over there.

Once we got in the Legacy Center, she was fine.  And after class, she told me she loved it and was so excited to do EVERYTHING!
doing the Hokey Pokey

Currently Reading

Greg and I are reading this book in tandem.  It has opened up a lot of discussion for us, and I think should be a standard in everyone's library.

Best Husband & Father

I found this picture on Pinterest and love it, because it perfectly describes how I feel about Greg.

Note To Self

Never wash a Pull-Up again.
I did a quick load of the girls' laundry this morning before heading out to visit Elizabeth at her new house.  I got the clothes in the dryer, walked to the bathrooms and collected towels, and came back to find the dryer door covered in white goo.  I immediately stopped the dryer, and Greg and I spent about 45 minutes cleaning up this crazy mess.

I came up with the idea to take this picture after about 20 minutes, with the biggest bulk of the mess cleaned up already.

Fun times.

Girls' Camp

I got to go back to Girls' Camp again today and really enjoyed the closing flag ceremony.  The best part is when the YCLs pull up the men and have them perform the Tootie Ta song.

But even better was the spontaneous worm that Casey Hansen performed at the end!

Morrows Make The Best Babysitters

I was so excited to be asked to come and do the Candy Bar Game at Girls' Camp this year.

One problem:  All of my babysitters are at camp

EXCEPT

Nick.

Nick generously agreed to babysit for the long hours required and Ellie & Lulu were so excited.  They had the front door open looking for him 10 minutes before he arrived.

Luckily, he was 7 minutes early and only one fly came in the house.

As soon as he got here, the girls were in charge and had him in the backyard filling up the pool.

I love that they did not care that I was leaving.

Morrows definitely make the best babysitters!

Sudoku

Greg and I both like to play Sudoku on our devices.  It is funny when we watch a show at night after the girls are asleep--we both are playing the game at the same time.

I had something unique occur tonight.  I got to the end of my game and had only 4s left to put in the puzzle.

We Love Babies!

We love babies around here, and especially special friends like this one!

P.S.  Lynnie picked out her own outfit today.  I loved that she matched the colors so well.

People Who Have Influenced My Life

My Father

Happy Father's Day to my amazing Pops!

He is a great example of being committed to the gospel and continually studying and growing in knowledge.  He is gregarious and funny and kind.  I appreciate the time we get to spend together, despite the distance we are apart.

Blah!

Lynnie loves to pretend to be a baby and make funny noises.

Like BLAHHHHH!

Bubbles

The girls played with paint that is also body wash in the bath tonight.  Lynnie told me that she likes bubbles now, which is huge.  She has hated them up to this point.  And Lynnie was nice enough to do some face painting on Ellie with those bubbles.

Dance Class

Ellie was so excited for her first dance class to start that she had a hard time standing still for a picture!

Swimming Lessons

Today was Ellie's first day of swimming lessons.

She insisted on bringing her goggles.

And she wore her swim shirt to protect the sunburn she got from the beach on Saturday.

It was exciting waiting for her class to start!

Baby Gookie

Ellie:  Lynlee, where is the wand?

Lynlee:  Baby Gookie

Ellie:  Lynlee, right here, Lynlee.  Look, right here!
This is a good example of how well these sisters play together.  It was a pause-in-my-tracks-and-melt-my-heart moment.  Ellie made up this game where one of them pretends to be "Baby Gookie" and the other one is "Mama Gookie."  Clearly, today, Lynnie was the baby and Ellie was helping her do the look and find picture.

Family Dinner

My mom hosts a family dinner once a month.  The girls love to play with Gwen and Lyssa.  The last fun thing of the night was to try out Grandma's swing set.

Bedtime

We had a fun Friday night, going on a family "date," as Ellie calls it.  She likes to say, "Daddy, will you be home tonight?  You will?  Yeah!!! Let's go on a date, daddy."  We watched Tangled and Ellie fell asleep around 8:30.  Lynlee had had a nap that afternoon, so she didn't give up til around 10:30.

Greg just held Ellie while I held Lynlee.  We knew if he put Ellie in bed and I tried to put Lynnie in bed, invariably L would wake up E.  Plus, he likes the snuggles.

After I got Lynnie asleep and in her bed, Greg fell asleep.  I must have dozed a little myself, because the next thing I knew, it was 12:45 a.m.

Miss Independent

Miss Independent always wants to play outside.  This morning, within 5 minutes of waking up, she put on a coat (even though it was probably 75 degrees), hat, sunglasses, and flip flops and was headed out the door.

Face Paint

Nice sister Ellie painted a turtle on Lynnie's face.  They were both so excited!

Kindermusik

I know I say this all of the time, but we just adore Miss Leda and our Kindermusik classes.  For summer, Lynnie and I go from 10-10:45 and Ellie hangs out in Miss Leda's living room.  Then Ellie goes from 11-11:45 all by herself.  The moms are invited back at 11:40 and the kids show us what they did that day.  So much fun!

Visiting Teaching

I love my new visiting teaching partner (the Bishop's wife) and the ladies we visit teach.  They both have a child either 2 or 3, and Ellie and Lu love to go and play.  Sister Nieznanski is great at setting up appointments early, also, which is good for me.  We went today (FOR JUNE!) and my Ensign hadn't even come yet.  I printed off the lesson from lds.org and we had great visits.

And, of course, my Ensign was in my mailbox when we got home.

Sad Day

Ellie is expressing in this picture how we all feel about Russ and Elizabeth moving away.
We attempted to help clean on this, their last day, but were more helpful picking up lunch and playing with Davis and Callie.  We will still get together and play, but it will require more effort than texting, "Can we come in?  We are outside!"

We love the Lassons!

Setting the Table

Ellie loves to set the table.  She does it however she wants and it always works great.

This morning, she set her place perfectly, with no prompting.  All of her silverware was placed with great precision.  Way to go, Ellie!

And Ellie always wants to have "regular" items now.  She tells me, "Mom, I need a reh-lar plate.  And silver silverware.  Not plastic.  Mom, Lynlee has plastic because she is medium size.  I get reh-lar because I am a big size.  Right, Mom?"

Swimming

We got everything set up--

water in the pool (cold from the hose, warm from the faucet)

bath toys thrown in

towels at the ready

waterproof sunscreen on

Hope invited--

and had a fun hour playing in the pool.  I love watching the imaginative play at work!  Hope and Ellie spent at least 25 minutes washing balls in the bucket and drying them off.  Then one or the other would throw the ball into the grass or into the dig-out, proclaim the ball dirty again, and the process would start all over.  Lynnie happily claimed the pool all to herself.

We even got to FaceTime with Greg while they were all in the pool.  Super fun.
