Lynnie has seen Ellie do this often--make a frog tongue out of a slap bracelet. Today Lynnie Lu has been wandering around with the frog tongue herself.

We had a quick trip to IFA to get more weed killer and to buy a couple of trees (to replace the dead ones in our yard). We liked looking at the baby chickens, but they were eating and very active, so they were a little disconcerting. The baby bunnies were much more fun to look at. Ellie and Lu tried really hard to convince Daddy to bring one home.
I have a feeling that a bunny will be our first pet!

I don't know why, but in all of our years of gardening/taking care of our yard, we have never really been into products that could help us. Just good old fashioned work. Mostly of the teenage kind, because my allergies made it so I could not handle being outside much.
This year we are committed to getting the yard looking stellar and keeping it that way. A combination of factors is at work: I can handle being outside and pulling weeds (thanks, NAET); the girls are big enough that they entertain themselves (in fact, Lynnie asks everyday if I can pull weeds and she can play outside); and we found a product that is helping. A lot. I spray, the weeds die, I pull them out, and nothing grows back. It's like a miracle.
Here's hoping that eventually we will get on top of the weeds and be able to maintain the way it should be maintained. Heck, I might even plant flowers this year!

We keep on talking about walking to church, and today it worked out to try it.
And of course we got rained on.
But just for the last little bit, and just a sprinkle. We made it in the building and then it was really pouring.
It took us 45 minutes, and Lynnie walked almost the whole way. We also had a quick stop at the Todd's house. Lynlee frantically told me, "I need to go potty!" in a panicked voice. Normandy & Savannah let us in and were very kind to us.
We hitched a ride home with the Morrows. It was pretty windy.

Today was McKinzie's last piano recital as my student. She is also a piano teacher with 11 students, so I had Kinz and Syreese play at the recital today with all of the little ones.
Syreese played Across The Burren and did an amazing job. Such a pretty song.
Kinz rocked it out with Bumble Boogie, a play on Flight of the Bumblebees over a boogie bass line. Pretty impressive.
Kinz has been better than me for years now, and it makes me so proud to witness the fruits of her hard work, dedication, and talent.
And if you click the link and watch the Liberace version of the song, know that Kinz played it almost that fast.

Ellie has known how to write "Eliana" for months now.
She just learned how to write "Ellie." For a while, it was confusing to her that the spellings are so different, but she has it down now.
She was excited to write her name on Davis' birthday present. She wrapped it all by herself.
P.S. I'm getting frustrated with my pictures not orienting themselves correctly. I keep on trying to resave them but nothing seems to work. *sigh*

Hope and Baelie came over to play today and we had a great time.
Until Ellie got bit by a garter snake.
The girls were eating Otter Pops and giggling (of course!) and I took a few minutes to pull some weeds. I spotted a little garter snake and told the girls to come look. Of course I said, about 7 times, "just look, don't touch" as the more adventurous Ellie and Baelie followed the snake around the dig out. It finally slithered into the rock wall.
I was standing above on the concrete and saw Ellie lean forward. As I frantically said again, "just look!" Ellie looked up at me with a startled expression. Baelie yelled, "that snake just bit Ellie!" and Ellie burst into tears.
Luckily, Ellie was still holding her Otter Pop and we were able to use that as her ice.
Because ice makes everything better!
I'm not really sure if the snake bit her or just snapped at her. Her finger wasn't red and there were no marks. She told me later she just wanted to pet it because Nick lets her pet his snake.
Thanks a lot, Nick.

Today marks the end of an era.
I might cry a little just talking about--I did cry a little when it happened.
Today was my last piano lesson for Kinz. I have taught her since she was in kindergarten, and she is about to graduate from high school. 13 years of awesomeness.
It is also the last lesson of the year for Syreese, and I have taught her since October 2005 (and I even checked my tax spreadsheets to make sure of the date). 8 years of awesomeness.
These sisters are amazing! I feel so privileged to have watched them grow up and mature into beautiful young women.
I joke that I "kicked out" my piano kids when I became a mother, but I just haven't been able to let go of Kinz and Syreese. They are like my other daughters.
Even though Kinz will be busy as she embarks on her college years, we have firmly committed to going to lunch at least once a month. I can't go a whole month without seeing them!

The girls have been in a bad habit lately of waking up around 6:15-6:30, and then they are dead tired, take a nap, and don't want to go to bed until 10.
I don't like it.
I tried so hard to keep Lynlee awake, but she fell asleep when I was helping Ellie get some milk for her friends.

Lulu and I dropped Ellie off at preschool and drove to West Jordan to buy a used bike trailer. On the way home, Lu fell asleep, so I just dropped the trailer off at home and came back to sit in the preschool parking lot. To my delight, the preschool kids were having recess and playing outside.
Ellie found a roly poly bug and it was a hit!

On Mother's Day, I wanted to honor my mother. She is a wonderful mother and the best grandma.
Growing up, she always made time to spend time with me. I remember many hours in the car: running errands, driving to oboe lessons or the youth symphony, and countless hours going back and forth to church.
My mom has set a great example of quiet service, playing the organ for years (40? 50?) every single Sunday, with her cute organ shoes. As a teenager, I was extremely embarrassed by her orange, square toed shoes (with bows!), but they are probably fashionable again now. In fact, I would probably wear them.
Happy Mother's Day!

We went to the grocery store to get more mini-wheats for Ellie's bedtime snack. As we were passing the Fruity Pebbles, I just mentioned that it is Uncle Kyle's favorite cereal. Ellie instantly wanted to try it. So we had to buy it and bring it home.

Where did April go? I realized that today was May 1, and my car registration expired yesterday. So Lynnie and I ran to do an on-the-spot renewal while Ellie was at music class. We swung by the credit union on the way, and Lynnie was so excited to get a red lollipop. She kept on telling me, "look, Mom, my tongue is red!"
