Christmas Is Truly Over...

...when we put away the decorations on New Year's Eve.  Lynnie was my big helper, while Ellie was playing with her friends Annie & Maddie.  I love this picture because it shows Lynnie hard at work, while holding her hair back.  She likes to take her clips or ponytails out, and then her hair gets in her way.

We are doing sleep training around here (again) and are doing the nightly routine and then putting the girls in bed awake.  We've gotten out of the habit and let them fall asleep on the couch while we are snuggling.  But it is a little out of hand.

Occasionally, though, Lynlee still falls asleep while we are reading stories.  Tonight she fell asleep in this awesome position, with her blanket over her face.

My poor computer is broken :(

I cannot get it to turn on.  Good thing Kent is willing and able to fix it for me.  He will pick it up tomorrow.

We loved Frozen so much that we had to see it again.  This time, we made it a party, with Uncle Brian, Aunt Bobi, Lyssa, Grandma, Aunt Amy, and Daddy with us. What a fun way to spend a Saturday morning!

Friday, December 27, 2013

For our family date night, we went to Outback Steakhouse.  We had a gift card to use up.  The girls had a lot of fun coloring while we waited a looooong time for our food to come.  Then they didn't like their steak because, as Ellie said, "it doesn't taste like daddy's steak!"

Awesome Christmas Present

One of Ellie's favorite Christmas presents was...Lego's.  I got them on Black Friday when Tiff found a great sale and convinced me that she was not too little for them.

Tiff was right.

Ellie spent a long time (longer than my attention span wanted) building them all by herself.  She followed the "surections" {directions}.  I helped by finding the pieces and pointing to the next step in the picture.  She really did analyze each picture and figure out how to put all of the pieces together.

Christmas Morning

Waiting....Anxiously waiting to go downstairs and see what Santa Claus brought!

Christmas Eve at Grandma Camp's House

We've had the tradition for a few years to gather at Grandma Camp's house on Christmas Eve.  We eat a nice ham dinner and then open presents.  That way we can see the kids' reactions as they open their gifts.

Celery Dipped in Flour

I think Lynnie would have survived as a handcart pioneer just fine.  She's tough.  The cold doesn't seem to bother her.  And flour is her new favorite food.

She asks for it every day.

She likes to dip her celery in it.

Salt Dough Handprint

We were planning on having Ellie's birth mom and her family over for dinner tonight, but Piper was sick.  We postponed til next week, and that gives us more time to be excited about it!  Ellie was really sad that this salt dough handprint she made for Tayler cracked while it was sitting on our counter.  I must not have baked it enough, and as it dried out more, it just separated.

Ellie picked out the paint color at Hobby Lobby, and then painted it all by herself.

The Stars

We met Lynlee's birth dad this afternoon at the Dinosaur Museum.  It is always fun to see him.  Lynnie loves the star room  in the museum.  I think she went through it a dozen times before she was ready to move on.

Pancake & Pajama Day

Ellie has been anxiously awaiting her preschool party on the last day of preschool before Christmas Break.  She got to wear her pajamas to school, and Miss Traci made pancakes.  So much fun!

Coloring Book

Grandpa dropped off an early Christmas present--a giant coloring book.  The girls immediately ran and got some crayons and markers, and plopped down in the entry way and started coloring.

Going on a Sleigh Ride

At Kindermusik, Lynnie and I get to hang out for a few minutes of Ellie's class.  I was pulling both of them on the towel until my hands cramped up.  Ellie immediately hopped off the towel and started pulling Lynnie.  It was awesome!

For December, the BCLs (Book Club Ladies) don't read a book and instead exchange presents.  Although we really don't read books anymore, even though we always pick one.  This year, the big hit was this ornament from Steph.  Makes me so happy to see it on my tree!  A reminder that "it takes a long time to grow an old friend."

Monday, December 16, 2013

I have a tradition where we get a new Christmas ornament every year for the girls (and a matching one for their birth mom).  It is fun to pick out something that they like, or one that represents something in their life.  Last year, Ellie picked a gymnastics ornament since she started gymnastics, and this year she picked a dance ornament.

This year, Lynnie thought about picking this Tinkerbell ornament, so we put two in the cart and kept perusing.  She wanted to hold it, and I told her it was fragile and to be very careful.

It was dropped in a minute and broke in half.

We put the other, unbroken one back and took this one up to buy.  The cashier said we didn't need to.

Wait, what?

We broke it, we buy it!

A little super glue when we got home, and it is as good as new.  And lucky Lynnie ends up with two ornaments this year.

The girls love to put on my make-up.  Which is funny to me, because I rarely wear it.  It entertained us for about half an hour!

Saturday, December 14, 2013

It's the final countdown to Christmas, and I am getting things cleaned up.

Really, my counters look so much better than yesterday!  Getting things put together and given away.  It feels good.

Friday, December 13, 2013

Lynnie wanted to eat flour today.  For lunch.

Hey, it's better than dirt!

Thursday, December 12, 2013

Ellie is supposed to attend group lessons for violin on Thursdays, but we have a conflict.  I got it arranged to attend for the first time today, since it was the rehearsal for the recital tomorrow night.  I can see why the group lesson is so important.  Ellie came away inspired and wanting to practice more so she can graduate to the wood violin.

Sometimes I feel extraneous.  In a good way.  Like when Lynnie wants Ellie to feed her milk.  It is so sweet to see them snuggle.

Home Teachers

We love our home teachers, Brother Hendrix and Brother Wade. They diligently come every month, and always find a time that works with Greg's crazy schedule.  Bro Wade let Ellie play with his hat tonight.  His cool "Indiana Jones" hat that he bought in Petra (where they filmed the 3rd movie).

Lynlee had an eye doctor breakthrough today--she was actually excited to go to her appointment!

Uncle Kyle

Lynlee told me that she wanted to see Uncle Kyle.  For Christmas.  At his house.

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen!

So we took a picture and texted it to him instead.

I'm A Baby!

Ellie was pretending to be a baby this afternoon.  While I was folding laundry, she set up a crib (made out of the bean bag chairs pushed together) and a high chair (the bouncy seat).  When it was time to eat dinner, she wanted to sit in the high chair.  She made a tray out of the cutting board and she was good to go!

Friday, December 6, 2013

The girls and I went on a date tonight to see Frozen.  They have never been in a movie theater before, and it was quite an adventure!  They talked me into wearing their princess nightgowns, which I did not think all of the way through.  Lynnie's is too long, and she cannot walk in it, so I had to carry her the whole time.

That girl is getting heavy!

We all enjoyed the movie, although there was a scary snow monster that made them both cry.  I got to hold them on my lap a lot, which made it really fun for me.

Dance Recital

Best part of Ellie's dance recital?  That Tayler and Piper came.

I love this spontaneous hug Ellie gave Tayler.  When they are together, Ellie cannot stop touching Tayler.  She loves to hold her hand or sit on her lap or walk right next to her or give her big loves.  It is awesome!

Dress Rehearsal

Ellie had her dress rehearsal tonight for her first dance recital.  She loved every second of it!
warming up--and amazing Miss Kristen always seemed to be holding this friend!

Puppy Makes a Good Pillow

Lynlee always wants to lay on Puppy in bed (instead of her pillow).  And now she has started laying on Puppy everywhere.

Silly Daddy

Lynnie Lu kept on asking Greg to let her stand on his hair.

Daddy was happy to oblige!

Cousins Are Important

After shopping all morning for Black Friday with the BCLs, I traded off with Greg (who had a basketball game), picked up the girls, and headed to Grandma's house to hang out with Kyle and Jonette et al.

Ellie idolizes and adores Kylene.  She wants to do everything Ky does.  She talks about how they are twins and they like all of the same things.  Ky is so sweet and attentive and spends a lot of time with Ellie when we are all together.

Makes my mother heart melt to see my "eldest" daughter and my eldest daughter together.

Especially when they take selfies like this and Ky texts them to me!

Practice Makes Perfect

After separating almost three dozen egg yolks in the past two days, you would think I would be better at it than this!
My cooking tasks that involved egg yolks were 4 types of custard ice cream and banana cream pie.

Uncle Kyle!

Kyle and Jonette and their family are in town for Thanksgiving.  Yeah!  We got to spend a few hours with them today.  Ellie was fascinated by Macy, and thought it was hilarious when Macy would lick her fingers.

Pop Explosion

We have had some 12 packs of soda stored on top of the upper cabinets in our laundry room for a while.  But we don't drink soda very much, and so the rotation has kind of ... not happened.  Ellie wanted some of the "raspberry juice" so I got a chair to pull some down for her.

And discovered a huge mess.

Leaking cans all over the place.  The tops on many of the cans had split right open.

Apparently, you should not store soda on top of a cabinet for 5+ years {the dates were 2008).  Now you know!

Three Billy Goats Gruff

One of the puppet shows at Story Time last week was the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  Lynnie has been obsessed with the story ever since!  Luckily, we have a version of it, and we have read it every day.  Lynnie likes to say, "who's that clip-clopping over my bridge?" and "I'm going to gobble you up!"

Ellie likes to pretend that she's scared of the troll.

It's a win-win, really.

12th Article of Faith

Ellie got to say the 12th Article of Faith in Primary today.  Greg got to help her.  And I got to substitute on the piano during Senior Primary.  Plus, it was Bryson's missionary talk in Sacrament Meeting.  All of this equals a wonderful day at church!

Mom, look at Kiki's muscles!  She's really strong, isn't she?

Throwback (Even Though It Isn't Thursday)

I am working on a photo organization project, and I realized I have not printed any pictures since December 1.  Last year.

The good thing about it is that it is really fun to review all of my pictures for the year and discover which ones are print worthy.

I found this gem:

Remember the snow we had last winter?  I love remembering how helpful Ellie was,and how much both girls always loved being out in the snow.  They wore their way-too-big-boots (that they will be able to wear again this year) and got all bundled up, and it was wonderful!

Story Time

Story Time is better when friends meet us there!  We loved seeing Bryn and Annie.  And the girls all sat on the floor for about 5 minutes before Story Time started, and then they all sat on our laps.  It was perfect.
Do you see Lynnie hiding?

The Beast

Lynnie very meticulously put these clips on her fingers, then turned around and said, "Grrrr!  Surprise!  I'm a beast!"

{like the beast from Beauty & the Beast}

Nap = Happy Girl

Tammy hung out with us last night for dinner and football, and Ellie didn't go to bed til 10:30.  That's really late for her.  She was up extra early this morning but was fine and happy all day.

Until it was time to go to dance class.  Then she told me that she was tired and cranky and needed a nap.  She was right!  She fell asleep about 2 minutes into our car ride and got, basically, a 5 minute nap.  She woke up as I was carrying her in, and she was recharged for class.  Success!

Nail Polish

Lynnie talked me into letting her paint her own nails today.  For the first time.  And she did awesome!  She didn't spill any and she was very careful.

Favorite Part of Your Day?

I asked Lynlee at dinner what her favorite part of the day had been.  She said, "making cookies with Nick!"

The girls and I took a treat and some pictures over to the Morrows to say thanks for all of their help this weekend.  They played with the girls yesterday morning while Greg and I had a meeting, and then played with the girls again this morning while I played a duet with Syreese in her Sacrament Meeting.  While we were at the Morrows after church, Nick scooped up Lynnie and held her while she "helped" him make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.

Saturday, November 16, 2013

At some point this fall I must have told Lynnie that snow wouldn't come til after her birthday, because she woke up on her birthday expecting to see snow.  She has been anxiously awaiting it, and she was so excited that there was snow this morning!  She had to touch it right away.

Art By Ellie

I love all of the art Ellie creates.  She spends time every day coloring, cutting, gluing, and creating.

Big Dress

Gwen was so excited to show us her "big dress."  It is pretty impressive!

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Lynlee's favorite nightgown has Rapunzel on it, so she insists that we call her Rapunzel now.  And of course, she was riding Max.

Asleep. And Not Asleep.

With our lingering sickness, we have all been going to bed early.  Ellie fell asleep on the couch before 6:30.  But Lynnie had had a nap earlier in the day, and she didn't go to sleep until after 10.

My favorite thing about this picture is that you can see the girls' new nightgowns.  We haven't been out much lately, and they have lived in these nightgowns.  Super cute!
