Chuck E. Cheese

We met Ellie's birth mom at Chuck E. Cheese tonight.  We had a nice visit and had a great time following the girls around.  Ellie loved every single toy and ride.  Lynlee was not a fan.  Greg got her to sit in this car for about 3 seconds at the end of the night.

New (To Us)

We are about to have an extended house guest.  Greg had the great idea to get a used washer and dryer for the basement laundry room to make things easier for her.  I was completely on board with that, so I shopped KSL classifieds for a few days, and we picked up a set today.  Greg quickly got them installed before taking off for his game, I tested it by running a load, and it all worked great.

Minnie Mouse

Santa brought Ellie a big Mickey Mouse and Lulu a big Minnie Mouse.  The stuffed animals are almost as big as the girls!

First Time Scraping the Windows

Amy and I went to see Les Miserable, and it was fun to come out to a winter wonderland. I broke our the scraper for the first time this winter.

Quality of Life

Merry Christmas to me!  Greg got me a fancy red Blendtec.  We have already made about 7 things in it.

I was thinking as I was making my smoothie that I could not have drunk this a year ago without running to the bathroom within 5 minutes.  My quality of life is so much better since I completed my NAET treatments.  (Well, I still have 2 left.  But I haven't gone in a couple of months.)

I can eat anything and everything without intestinal issues.  I rarely get headaches.  I have more energy.  I can pet dogs and cats.  I don't get a stuffy nose from perfumes.  Yeah for NAET, and yeah for fruits and vegetables!

Ellie:  Look, Mom, I got my own snack.

Placemat Pillows

I got this idea from Monique's blog and have been busily engaged on this project for gifts for special people.  It has been a fun project, and it is even better now that I am all done.

Except for the ones for my own couch.
1.  Get placemats that have different fabric on the front and the back.
2.  Unpick enough of the seam to get your hand in and fill with stuffing.
3.  Sew the seam back up.
4.  Try not to look very closely at your bad sewing skills.

Camera Happy

Someone figured out how to take pictures on the iPad, and had a great time snapping away in the car!

327 pictures deleted, pretty much all of this same shot.

Grandma's Penguins

Grandma & Grandpa have the coolest penguins in their front yard.  Lynlee said, "Pingu.  Knock knock!"

Black Friday Find

My favorite Black Friday find is this hair accessory organizational board.  It was an improvement getting all of the clips organized (and out of the fishing tackle box I was using), and having it lean against the wall on the counter.  But today I finally got it up on the wall (using one of Lynnie's blocks as an improvised hammer) and it is amazing how clean the bathroom feels by reclaiming that little bit of counter space.  The girls love it, and pick out their clips every day by themselves now.

Preschool Program

Ellie's preschool program was this morning, and she wanted to wear her Santa dress to match her Santa hat.  So, of course, Lynnie wanted to wear her Santa dress as well.

Princess Sticker

We love to get "2 girl stickers" every time we go to the bank.

Ellie especially loved it today.

Ellie:  "Look, Mom, this is Belle and Aurora!"
Me:  "Those are Tayler's 2 favorite princesses."
Ellie:  "They are?  Then they are my favorite princesses, too!"

We had fun with cousins today at Costco.  Had to pick up Christmas cards, and any excuse to see Andrew and Emily is a good one!

Ellie and Andrew are yelling CHEESE here.

Santa's Little Helper

We went to Grandma's house this afternoon to play with Tanya, Andrew, Emily, Grandma, and Grandpa.  And in an effort to reset Lynlee's schedule.

Lynlee has decided that she likes to sleep from 10 p.m. til 10 a.m.  I don't like that schedule much.  I thought the best way to get her to sleep earlier was to purposely skip her nap.  And it worked for this day!

We played hard all afternoon, got home, ate dinner, had a bath, and sat on the couch to drink milk around 6:10.  Lynlee was out for the night by 6:15.

***update a few days later:  Lu has been going to bed around 9 and getting up around 8:30.  That's a little better, and something I can live with!***

Playing with the iPad camera

Lynlee was so fascinated with this photo effect. She entertained herself for almost 15 minutes and took scores of pictures!

Home Teachers

Ellie loves our home teachers, especially when they bring her Christmas presents!  She loves to tell them stories and talk about our family.  My favorite conversation went like this:

Ellie:  I can't tell Daddy what we got for him for Christmas.  It's a pah-prise!  {surprise}  So, don't tell him we got him a tie, OK?

Tea Party

Ellie was so excited to invite Hope and Baelie over to play today.  She spent about 40 minutes setting up the perfect tea party.  She wanted a table, and even though there is one in the playroom, she thought it would be easier to make one upstairs.  She found a diaper box in Lynlee's room and got to work!

She collected snacks and water cups and toys to play with.  She even invited Lynlee's new dog to sit on her special blanket.

After her friends left, I was getting Lynlee some milk and Ellie disappeared.  We found her, sound asleep, in Lynlee's bed.

At 5:20.

She would not wake up, no matter what Lynnie or I tried.  She finally wandered out around 7:30.

Ellie's Drawing

Ellie was very proud of this drawing she did on the iPad.  She drew herself (pink)--"and I'm so happy!"--and a turtle (green-also happy, with 4 legs and a tail), the sun, the sky, clouds, grass, and 2 trees.  And she put green clips in her hair.

Pretty Dress

This dress is a hand-me-down from Lyssa, so I put it on Lynnie today since we were going to my mom's for dinner.  And the best part about it is that there is a picture on Mom's fridge of 15 year-old Lyssa wearing this dress when she was 3!

Ellie likes to "cook" with flour, water, oats, food coloring, and whatever else she can sucker me into giving her (cereal, chocolate milk, whatever).  She happily mixes and pours and stirs.

She calls it making an "auc-auction."

It took me a few times of her saying to realize she was saying "concoction."

Today we made a baking soda and vinegar volcano (using up vinegar from 2000--clearly not a highly used product around here) and then the girls stirred their hearts out.

First Candy Cane

Thank you, library, for handing out candy canes during Story Time. Both girls said, "tasty!"

Feed the Fish

The girls love to watch the fish in the humidifier.  There is a colored light and the fish 'swim' around.  Today, Ellie got the great idea to feed the fish oatmeal.

She didn't want them to be hungry.

It's amazing what happens when I am folding laundry!

"Mom, Lynlee is taking a nap!"

So cute because Ellie put Lynlee to 'sleep' in her own bed.

Monday, December 3, 2012

I have created a smoothie junkie, which is awesome.  Today, Lynlee picked the blue cup, but then wanted my pink cup as well.  Because one smoothie just isn't enough!

Potato Soup

Creamy potato soup is the best!  The girls helped me make it, and it is fun to work together in the kitchen.  Ellie loves to wash all of the vegetables, and Lynnie likes to sit at the counter.  The best part about this soup was that the carrots, onion, and potatoes all came from our garden.

I love making soup because it is pretty much failure free.  I never measure, even though I probably should.  Here is what I did tonight:

Cook sausage, celery, and onion together until the onions start to turn clear.  Add potatoes, carrots, and a carton of chicken stock.  Boil until potatoes are done.  Add half & half and 2 cups chopped kale (I did measure that).  Warm through (but do not boil) and serve.  Garnish with bacon bits.

Christmas Bounty

Time to get this loot organized and wrapped. I've been storing it all in Nana and Pops' room (as Ellie calls it) and keeping the door locked.  A very successful strategy because no one noticed for a couple weeks.
