Cute As A Bug

Who came up with the expression "cute as a bug?"  I think bugs are interesting and fascinating looking, but I can't think of a real bug that I would classify as cute.

Lulu sure is cute, though!

Radio

The radio Ellie got for her birthday has completely improved my quality of life.  The girls love to listen to it in the car, which allows me to listen to audiobooks or my music on the car speakers (turned to front/left, of course).  As much as I love the amazing playlist of kid music I have created for them, it has been really nice to only listen to it in the background.

Turtle Drum

Sometimes I have an extended pity party for one, but today was an exceptionally good day.  The girls and I were playing in the playroom when Greg got home from work, and he snuck down the stairs and joined us.  We had the radio going and Ellie handed out musical instruments.  Lynnie quickly snagged the turtle drum, which has been one of her favorite toys since she was a baby.

My life is not that hard, and sometimes I just need to be reminded of that.  My life is pretty awesome!

Walk

The girls and I took a walk to drop some things off at a friend's house today.  Ellie rode most of the way and told me how hot it was (hot, but not bad with the nice breeze blowing).  Lynlee walked most of the way.  She has such a cute walk right now--kind of a march, kind of a stomp.

Doodle Paint

I braved Hobby Lobby today with the girls (their first time there, and only my second) to try and find washable tempura paint for an idea I got from Pinterest.  That store is fun and we stayed until 1:45--an hour past Lynnie's naptime.

She let us know all the way home that she was not happy about that fact.

Once I got her down, Ellie and I mixed up the paint (equal parts flour, salt, and water + some paint) and got it in our new squeeze bottles.  It is so easy and so fun!  I am excited to see how it dries.  It is supposed to be puffy and glisten-y.

***Update:  most of the paint took 2 days to dry, and the really thick parts took more than 3 days to dry.  Definitely too much of a time commitment.  Fun project, but not that fun!

Uncle Kyle

Lynlee was fascinated with Maci, until Maci wanted to sniff her pup!  Then Lynlee gave her famous grunt.

After a fun dinner with Dad, Dan, Tanya & fam, and Kyle & fam, (thanks again for arranging it, Tanya!), everyone left and we got the girls ready for bed.  Ellie had fallen asleep on the couch at 4:48, so she wasn't ready for bed yet, so we packed up and headed to Greg's parents for a few more minutes with the Helena crew.

Todd and Rachel came and we got to meet their new exchange student (Mateo from Italy), and Paul and the boys were there as well.  As usual for a Spencer gathering, it was noisy and talkative and just fun!

I was feeling a little nostalgic as I watched our girls.  Lynnie was totally happy hanging out on the deck with Uncle Kyle and staying close to me.  She walks her pup around by holding on to its ears and moving its feet.  She sings songs and dances and plays with everyone.  She gave Emily loves and ate Kyle's snacks.

Ellie chose to run around the yard and jump on the trampoline with the big kids.  We barely saw her the whole time we were there.

It really made me realize how fleeting the time is for the baby stage.  Ellie is a big girl now and likes to do big girl things.  Lynnie is growing up so fast and is smack dab in the middle of toddlerhood.

Hide & Seek

We love to play Hide & Seek, although Ellie is still learning the finer points of the game.  When I call out something to the effect of, "is Ellie in the closet?"  She will always answer with her location:  "No, I'm under Lynlee's bed!"

Chalkboard Fun

One of my callings is the Stake Music Librarian, which basically means I get to meet ward choir directors at the library when they want to check out music.

We discovered drawing on the chalkboard today while we were waiting, and it was fun!  Ellie was not sure about the chalk dust and spent most of the time with a piece of chalk in her right hand and a baby wipe in the left.

Lynlee loved climbing on and off the chair the most.

Lunch with Jonette, Kylene, Kiera, and Tammy

Jonette, Kylene, and Kiera met Tammy, Greg, the girls & I for lunch on their way down to SUU.  It was too brief, but nice to take the opportunity to catch up a little with them.

Hot Tub with Kyle & Kaysen

It's almost time for school to start at SUU, so Kyle & Kaysen started the trip tonight.  They have their trailer hooked up to their truck, full of furniture for Kylene's new townhouse.  Kiera had cheerleading camp, so she, Kylene, and Jonette started later and are spending the night in IF.

We are excited to have Kyle and Kaysen spend the night with us!  Ellie asked if they would go in the hot tub with her, so they packed their swimsuits.

She put her swimsuit on about 5:00, she was so excited for them to come.  Lynlee was completely freaked out at first, but by the end of our time, she was sitting on the edge and splashing with her feet.

Quiet Time Project

When Lynnie is napping, Ellie has Quiet Time.  We have reached an understanding, where she can choose to play in her room or watch a show in my room.  She usually starts watching a show and then wanders around for 45 minutes to an hour.  I like to take that time to work on the computer, catching up projects or reading my favorite blogs.

Today, I figured out how to convert mp4's to mp3's and get songs loaded on Ellie's radio that she got for her birthday.  I put on a lot of the girls' favorites, including "Daddy's Song" (Pork & Beans by Weezer), and songs from Kindermusik & The Primary Childrens' Songbook.

It was fun for the rest of the afternoon as the girls fought over shared the radio and danced and sang.

FHE Walk

I had my regular Monday NAET appointment, and I knew it was death to put Ellie in the car at 4:30, but what are you going to do?  She was asleep before we got to the highway.  She slept through the trade-off to Greg and Greg managed to wake her up in about an hour.  In an effort to tire her out, we went on a lovely evening stroll around the new streets behind our house.  Lulu got tired and got carried home by Greg.  Ellie loved every minute of it, and did go to bed around 11:30.

An improvement!

***update -- I managed to keep her awake all day Tuesday and she fell asleep at 7:24.  She should be a lot happier tomorrow with a good night's sleep!***

Behold! A Royal Army

Today in Sacrament Meeting we sang Behold! A Royal Army and it brought back memories.  When we were in high school, Amy made up lyrics about our dogs for the chorus, and we sang it all the time.  I still cannot sing "victory" but have to say either "Annie-girl" or "Licorice."

My memory has severely failed me, and I cannot remember all of the fabulous words.  HELP!

Red Cupcake

We went to an Eagle Court of Honor in our ward, and they had great refreshments.  Ellie especially loved licking all of the strawberry frosting off of the red cupcake.  Lynlee liked eating the cupcake part.  It's a match made in heaven!

My favorite moment of the night came when Ellie was being super helpful.  I had just wiped her chin, and shared a wipe with Elizabeth for Davis' chin.  Ellie grabbed that wipe out of my hand and tried to get Davis' chin for him.  He promptly ran away, and the chase was on!  It was pretty funny watching Ellie run after him trying to clean his chin off.

Bug

We went to the Moran Eye Center to pick up Lynlee's glasses (she had some road rash on her previous pair, just wanted to replace with fresh lenses).  Ellie loves the hallways because she likes to jump on the ladybugs.  Lynlee got really into it this time, running between the bugs and then leaning down and smacking them.

Let's Pank!

Pank-ing is one of our favorite things to do.  I can always tell it is time to paint because Ellie will take her shirt off and get all ready to go.  Lynlee this time wanted to paint her belly more than she wanted to paint the paper.

Playing with Friends

We got to play with some friends today, and we had a great time.  Cambria (who Ellie called Camera the whole time) was so good for Ellie.  Elle tends to pout sometimes if she doesn't get her way, and Cambria didn't really care.  One conversation went like this:

E:  I am so angry!
C:  Why are you angry?
E:  I just am!
C:  Well, just come play with me anyway.

and she did.
Dress-up was our favorite activity

Morning Routine

When I am getting ready in the morning, Lynlee likes to sit on the counter and play in the sink.  She likes to tell me, "up, ap" which means "up, help" and then she has fun playing in the water.

Rat

Greg was the lucky, final recipient of this rubber rat at Girls' Camp.  He told Ellie he found it under his pillow, and she asked, "oh, to help you sleep better?"  Since Greg said yes, Ellie is convinced that it helps her sleep better as well.  She calls it her squeaky mouse and she loves the ugly thing.

TenderMercies, Revamped

After a fun family dinner at Bobi's house, we had a great drive home with the girls.  They are so funny in the truck, dancing and giggling.  The commuter lanes on Timpanogos Highway opened yesterday, so Greg took a detour to drive them and see where it all connects.  Lynlee fell asleep the last 2 minutes of the drive, and then didn't go to bed until almost 11 p.m.

After we got Ellie in bed, Greg snuggled Lynnie and I worked on revamping the tendermercies blog.  We will (hopefully) be approved for our 3rd adoption on Wednesday, and I give the blog address in our profile so people can learn more about us.  The biggest change I made was creating tabs linked on the top telling a little bit more about us.

Day 2 of the FSA Conference

We have really enjoyed the conference this weekend.  This is the 2nd year we have come, and I am really glad we are building this tradition.

I enjoy the classes and the insights I gain.  I enjoy spending 2 solid days in Greg's company, talking and laughing.  I enjoy knowing that the girls are having a fabulous time with Hailey (who not only plays and keeps them really happy, she even does the dishes!).

I am grateful that we are part of the adoption world and that we have built our family through the miracle of adoption.  I am so grateful for our birth moms and their family.  Without them, we would not know so much joy.

I know that T & M were answers to our prayers, and I hope we were answers to their prayers as well.

Presenting at the FSA Conference

Greg and I had the opportunity to present a class at the Families Supporting Adoption Conference.  We taught twice, with about 15 people in the class each time, which was the perfect size group.

We talked about our experience with adoption, and how we found joy as we were waiting for the girls to find us.  We drew heavily from Elder Holland's talk in 1999, An High Priest of Good Things to Come, and showed the Mormon Messages video that was made from that talk.  We also talked about Elder Wirthlin's talk in 2008, Come What May & Love it.

Elder Holland's talk was the turning point for Greg, and Elder Wirthlin's for me.  It's telling that it took me 9 years longer than him, isn't it?

I was reminded as we put together our presentation how many "compensatory blessings" the Lord gives me (and everyone).

Greg is a master at getting people involved, and we had quite the discussion going on.  Since I (mostly) put the presentation together, I managed to talk for less than 10 minutes, and Greg did the remaining 40.

It was perfect!

But I'm So Tired!

We headed out for a quick trip to Walmart after Lynlee's nap, and Ellie informed me as we were getting in the car, "but I'm so tired!"  She fell asleep about halfway to the store, and stayed asleep in Walmart, the transfer back to the car, the transfer into a cart at Target, and half of the Target trip.

She was so funny after she woke up, and cognizant enough to want to buy popcorn at the front of the store.

Decorating the Play Room

The girls and I had a great time decorating the play room today, with Hello Kitty and Dora wall stickers.  Ellie was so serious about doing it herself, and she was pretty skilled at smoothing out the stickers.  Lynlee lost interest after about one sticker, and happily played while Ellie kept working.
Ellie told me she was cold today as she picked out her outfit, so she is wearing 2 pairs of tights, a pair of shorts, a camisole, an undershirt, and a shirt.

More Birthday Celebrations

Ellie's birthday was yesterday, and Tayler's birthday is tomorrow, so today was the perfect day to get together and celebrate!  Grandpa & Grandma sent Ellie the coolest Dora playhouse and Tayler got her the coolest Dora tent.

Lynlee also appreciated the gifts very much.

We love Tayler, she is so special to us.  We love every time we get to see her!

Happy Birthday, Ellie!

When we ordered Greg's cake from Costco, Ellie got so excited for her upcoming birthday that I knew we would go back and get a cake for her there as well.  I really thought she would pick the princess cake, but she absolutely had to have the flowers and sunshine.  Super cute!

Computer Games

Ellie heard an ad on TV about disneyjunior.com and wanted to try it out.  I said sure, thinking she was too young for computer games, and we would quickly move on.

She totally got it.

Within a couple of minutes, she was clicking away like a pro!  She played for a few minutes and then we had other things to do, but she asked all day to play on the computer again.
