Time to Get Dressed

Ellie has discovered that she can dress and undress herself, and she loves to pick out her own outfits.  Today, she put on her soccer pants (blue ones, just like the ones Kaysen wears), then pink pants, then orange shorts, then green-and-white-polka-dot shorts, then pink shorts.  On top, she had a white pack-pack (camisole) and 2 shirts.  And no outfit is complete without Hello Kitty socks and Dora sandals.

She went to Costco this way.  It was awesome!

At Lehi High School Graduation

We had fun going to Lehi's graduation and supporting the seniors from our ward.  Bobi and her family came to see one of their friend's sons.  We were lucky because their friends saved seats for all of us, and we got to be in the 2nd row on padded chairs.  Ellie sat with Brian, Bobi, Adam, and Lyssa the whole time, but Lynlee stuck close to Greg and I.

One of Lynnie's favorite things to do is be swung in a blanket.  She laughs and giggles and always says & signs "more" when you put her down.  I had a quick visit to the eye doctor, and Pops and Uncle Bob kept Lynnie entertained for a long time while I was gone.

We had a productive weekend doing projects around the house and getting everything spring cleaned.  Monday afternoon we were ready to plant the garden.  Lynlee loves to play in the backyard, and especially loves to sit in her very own purple chair.  Ellie has a red chair, and each of them is fairly territorial.

This awesome quilt has quite a story.  Bobi helped Mom clean out her basement a few years ago, and they found this quilt top.  It had been a present for my dad back when he was a young missionary from a lady in his mission to West Virginia.  My mom put on a back and had it quilted, and then gave it to me.  It is just so ugly, and I love it!

We found a great furniture set at Knight's Furniture, a locally owned store that the Morrows told us about.  I knew our family room in the basement was big, but it seems even bigger with the furniture.  The best part about this set is there are 4 recliners, and there is a good view of the TV from every spot (since it is our pseudo-theater room).

Ellie figured out a couple of days ago how to climb into her crib, and then the next day figured out how to climb out.  This morning at 6:30, Greg and I woke up to the sound of pitter-pattering feet scampering around the house.  Those feet quickly came in our room, and we spent about 45 minutes snuggling in our big bed.

This feels like an important rite of passage.  What a big girl!

We are working on our paperwork for adoption #3, and as part of that process we all needed physicals and medical reports.  The last two times we just went to the instacare, but this time, Tanya convinced us we needed a real doctor and should see her family practice doctor.  He was great, and the staff was great.

The problem with a "real" doctor is that he wants me to do all sorts of things.  I got to get a whooping cough vaccine and tetanus booster (and Ellie told me not to cry when I got my shot; luckily, I didn't).  He said that my bloodwork from my hospital visit showed that I was anemic, so I got to have my blood drawn and retested.

I have been really good about not fainting lately (for a while, back in our infertility testing days, I had about a 50% fainting rate when my blood was drawn--which happened quite regularly).  I had a close call this time, probably because I was talking it through with the girls, and tried to watch the nurse poke me with a needle, and I hadn't eaten or drunk yet that day.

I got through it.

Oh, yeah, and I am 37 now and forgot to have a mammogram at 35 (because my mom is a breast cancer survivor) so I get to schedule that.

All good things to ensure my good health, but just a good reminder of why I prefer to not visit  doctors for myself.  That, and Lynlee started crying the moment the nurse came in the room.  It took a few minutes to convince her that she was not going to be poked or prodded that day, just Mommy.

These lovely shelves were a hand-me-down from Kyle & Jonette when Greg & I were newlyweds.  This is my 3rd time painting them, and hopefully it will be the last.  I finished up my 3rd coat of primer today, and will put on the actual paint Friday (Apple Peel this time, to match the trim in the playroom).

I Can Do It, Mom!

Ellie is a big helper, and she loves to tell me that she can do it by herself.  We went to our follow-up appointment for Lynnie's eyes, and Ellie insisted on pushing the stroller.  By herself.

And she actually did a pretty good job, considering that she only weighs about a pound more than Lynnie.

Chocolate Milk

Since the bottles went away, Ellie has not drunk milk.  Today she told me she wanted to go to Chick-fil-A and drink chocolate milk, and I simply said, OK!

And she drank about half of the bottle.  It was pretty impressive.

First Day of Nursery

Greg always takes Ellie to the bathroom and then drops her off in nursery.  Today was Lynlee's first day, so I headed to change her diaper, and then back to meet Greg & Ellie.  We got to nursery, and we were there first.  Lynlee loves to go in, and Sis Dunn had a balloon for her.  She was in heaven.  I waited a few minutes before exchanging goodbyes with Lynlee, and she just ignored me and kept on playing.  I went in search of Ellie, and found that Greg had been waylaid.  I took Ellie back to nursery, and Lynlee didn't care that we came in.  She was having too much fun playing with Davis and her balloon.

A highly successful first day!

10 Year Anniversary

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary of being a book club (first meeting was August of 2002), we had a girls' weekend.  Cute Kandice brought balloons and candles.

One of my callings is Stake Music Librarian, which means I get to meet Ward Choir Directors at the library and help them check out music for their wards (all of the music is kept on a Stake level).  We had a lot of fun running in the gym while a choir director browsed.

I love these girls!  I love how close they are in age, and how they already take care of each other.  They are, for the most part, loving and patient with each other, and will play for hours together.

People Who Have Influenced My Life

with her gorgeous oldest daughter Emily
Mary and I served in the Primary Presidency together for a while, until she was made Relief Society President.  I realized after she was released as Secretary how much she did of my job in her gentle way (do you think we should do XYZ?).  I had quite the learning curve when I had to do my job all by myself.

I love everything about Mary, and aspire to be like her when I grow up.  She has 5 children who are talented and accomplished, but more than that, are hard workers, polite, generous and kind.  Mary is an example to me of how to mother, how to organize your day to be most effective, and how to serve others quietly and without fanfare.

A New Park

We tried this park today, behind the outdoor swimming pool.  It had fun slides and good climbing (Ellie did the ladder all by herself for the first time).  We played for a long time with a new friend, a little boy who lived in the apartment building next door.  The girls also loved running around the picnic tables in the pavilion.

Happy Mother's Day

In honor of Mother's Day, I had to dress Lynlee in this dress that my grandma made for my sister Amy and that my mom found in her basement and gave to me.
And you can kind of tell in this picture that Lynlee's right eye has no more red, and the left eye is looking a lot better.  The red there is really streaks with her white showing in between.  What a good healer!

Saturday, May 12, 2012

We took the day and moved all of the stuff out of the garage and into the basement.  Well, about half of the stuff.  The other half got taken to D.I. or the dump.  It feels good to purge so much stuff!  The girls did awesome and played with all sorts of treasures.  They were loving all of the baby gear, and Ellie found a treasure in some of Greg's mission souvenirs.

Making Cupcakes

Ellie had a great idea to make cupcakes today, and then she said we should take some to our best friends, Hope and Davis and Sam.  We had a great time making the cupcakes, but after Lynlee's nap, when it was time to get in the stroller and go deliver them, E had a meltdown and refused to go on a walk.

So, sorry, best friends!  The girls and I each ate a cupcake, and then we ended up throwing the rest away.  Does the thought count in this case?  Or a virtual cupcake?

We had a great recital tonight with McKinzie's students(Elaina, Jacob, Josh, Zachary, Nathan, and Hans), Rachel's students (Jace, Cassie, and Tylan), and my students (McKinzie, Syreese, Tyler, Sadie, and Madelin).

It kind of turned into BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) but we ended up with enough seats.  McKinzie stole the night as she closed the recital with one of her Festival pieces, Scherzo.  It is really fast and furious, and she got the loudest whoops from her 4 boy students after she was done!

I Love....

...that when I vacuum the basement carpet, I have to raise the vacuum all the way up.

It's the simple things that make me happy!

Morning Loves

This morning was unusual--Ellie woke up at 5 a.m. and never went back to sleep, and Lynnie slept until 6:35, drank some milk, and went back to sleep until 9:20.  When Lynnie woke up, Ellie brought her a notebook and a pencil, and wanted to climb in her bed.  They snuggled up next to each other and played for about 10 minutes until Lynnie was ready for more milk.

At Denver's Baby Blessing

Kyralyn has some serious muscles!

Kent and Jessica have church the same time as us, but their Sacrament Meeting is last, so we were able to attend our Sacrament Meeting and then slip out to go to Denver's blessing.

Greg got to experience first-hand the reason I do not make it all the way through Relief Society--Lynnie is really loud for the last half hour of church.  She does great until then, but then she is ready to talk.  Her first Sunday in Nursery is supposed to be next week.

Ellie sat with Grandpa and Grandma for awhile, and then managed to get to Kent and Jessica, where she proceeded to smother Denver with love for the rest of the meeting.

Lawn Care

Greg works really hard, even with his busy schedule, to keep our lawn pristine.  He does good work!

Bouncing Turtle

Tayler bought this turtle for Ellie's first Christmas, and it is still a hit with Ellie.  Lynnie also loves to climb on and bounce!

Daniel's Visit

Jonette flew to Cedar City to drive back home with Kylene, who has completed her freshman year at SUU.  We celebrated their quick stay with dinner at Texas Roadhouse, and then Jonette, Kylene, Tanya, Andrew, and Emily came over to see the finished basement.

I was just saying good-bye so I could head out to my Book Club, when Daniel came running down the stairs.  He had hopped on his bike and ridden to our house, all by himself.  I didn't even know he could find our house by himself!  As Mom always says, he has Downs, but he is not stupid.

Jonette instantly pulled out her phone and called Mom and asked where Daniel was.  Her little joke was funny because no one had realized yet that he had slipped out.   What a night!  Daniel just wanted to be with "his Jonette."

Floor Refinishing

As part of our construction project, we had Cody take out our arched living room entrance and put in french doors to make an office.  That left us with some gaps in our flooring where the walls had been.  We had a wood floor guy patch those parts, and then strip and reseal our entire wood floor.

We couldn't walk on it for at least 6 hours, so the girls and I went to the library, Target, Cafe Rio for lunch with Greg and Tammy, the park, and then hung out at Grandma's house til bedtime.  It is amazing how tiring it is to not be allowed to go home!

The floors look gorgeous, though, so it was all worth it.

Piano Tuning

I have been waiting for the basement to be finished and the piano moved downstairs before I had it tuned. It has been a couple of long months of out-of-tune playing, but it sounds great now!
