It's About Time

Our car was finally done yesterday afternoon, and Greg enlisted Tammy to help him pick it up and return the rental car.  This morning was the first time I got to drive it, and it was nice.

I have really enjoyed driving the truck, more so than I imagined I would.  Even though we have owned the truck for 11 years, I have only driven it minimally, so I never really got used to it.  After 4 weeks of it being my primary vehicle, I can really appreciate why Greg loves it so much--you sit so high, and there is so much power, and it feels indestructible.  That last quality was especially important because I have felt a little less confident in my driving skills lately.

Even though I appreciated and loved the truck, it was fun to go zipping along to music class this morning!  Glad to have my car back again.

Colored Rice

My friend Carrie pinned a lot of cool kid ideas the other day, and we have loved trying some of them out.  The colored rice idea comes from here and was super easy to make.  Ellie helped me while Greg was giving Lynnie her bath.  She helped me poured a cup of rice in a sandwich sized Zip-loc bag, added about a tablespoon of vinegar, and then squeezed in as much food coloring as she could before I said, "OK, that's enough."  Then I got the air out of the bag and we squished all of the color around.  The final step was putting the rice on waxed paper to dry, which only took a couple of hours.

We are going to make I Spy bags tomorrow (also found on Pinterest here).  Now we just need a friend to come do it with us; we have a lot of stuff!

Date with Daddy

Greg, Ellie, and Tammy headed to watch some games at the tournament.  I stayed home with Lu because she is a little under the weather and had a rough night, and I wanted to make sure she got a good nap.  Tammy texted me some pictures and said that Ellie is being hilarious.  I'm glad they are having so much fun.

Ah, the best laid plans.  Lu only napped for 45 minutes, so we should have just gone as well.

And can I just say that only having one baby with me is exponentially easier than having 2 little ones?  I'm getting spoiled hanging out with just Lu.  We have watched Baby Signing Time without negotiating with Ellie, and folded laundry, and done dishes, and eaten lunch, and played on the floor.

Even though it is easier, I miss Ellie and Greg.  And not just because when they come home we are making a Costco run.

Ah, Naptime

Ellie got up for the day at 5:45 a.m., which is unusual for her.  We went over this morning to help Grandpa learn how to use PowerPoint (he is going high-tech for his Institute class), and on the way home, both girls fell asleep.  I got Lynnie in bed just fine, but knew from experience that Ellie would wake up if I tried to put her in her bed.  I got her situated on the couch, and she took more than a 2 hour nap.  She woke up when Greg popped by on the way to his basketball game to see if his new shoes had been delivered, and they had a nice 20 minute snuggle.

Greg's shoes weren't here when he left, but got delivered about 15 minutes later...

But I don't want to take a nap....

Ellie got up for the day at 6, and that is earlier than normal.  After we went to music class, we headed to the library to check out a couple of movies.  She picked a Goofy movie and a LeapFrog movie, and we caught the beginning of Story Time.  Lynnie was in heaven bouncing to the music, but I could tell that she was ready for milk and a nap, and Ellie was starting to drag.

So we cut Story Time short and got in the truck.  Ellie told me she didn't want to take a nap when we got home (a clear indication that she is tired and knows she needs a nap, otherwise a nap doesn't even cross her mind).  I told her she didn't have to take a nap, and we headed home.

About a minute into the drive, Ellie asked me what song we were listening to.  I told her, and waited for a response back.  All I heard was silence.  I peeked back at her, and she was already asleep.

Kids on the Move

Our pediatrician recommended that we contact Kids on the Move and have Lynlee assessed.  Dr. Vargo was concerned that she isn't walking on her own yet, and her reflexes are slightly overactive.  Not spastic, she was quick to say, but overactive.

I wasn't really convinced that Lynnie needed extra help, but I remember what a positive experience it was for Jonette when Kiera was a baby, so I figured, why not?

KOTM came this morning with a program supervisor and a physical therapist.  After observing and playing with Lynnie for a while, the physical therapist saw a few things that concerned her.  She said that Lynnie has low tone, which means that she has to be stronger than other children her age to accomplish the same tasks.

All of Lynnie's darling little tricks and quirks are actually coping mechanisms for her low tone.  Her cute scoot allows her to move very quickly, but not use her arm muscles or her core muscles very much.  When she sits, she has a wide base, and supports her weight with her legs and not her core, and stacks her bones instead of engaging her muscles.

The physical therapist is coming back next week to start us with some exercises, and has us doing some things this week.  When I walk Lynnie around, I am to hold her hands at shoulder level or below, and try to prevent her from leaning on my hands (making her use her core to support herself).  We weighted down her push-walker-toy so that it is harder to move, and I am making sure she pushes it more than she normally does.

Our happy baby sure has had some challenges.  Eczema, torticollis, plagiocephaly, accomodative esotropia, and now delayed gross motor skills.  She will come through this with panache, just like all of the others, I am sure!

Kissing Cousins

Kylene has been here for the long weekend, so we went to Grandma's house one more time to hang out with Andrew, Emily, Tanya, and Kylene.  The kids had a great time playing together.  Andrew was hilarious with Lynnie, and had her giggling and chasing him for quite a while.  He would tickle her and kiss her and say "boo."  She loved it all!

Kylene made an appearance about 20 minutes before we left at 12:45 to go home for Lynnie's nap.  Ah, to be young again!

Twisting

A visit to Aunt Tammy is not complete without a massage session.  Ellie always remembers to ask for Aunt Tammy to get her special massage stick.  Lynnie loves to play with the case.

People Who Have Influenced My Life

Kelly is an amazing friend!  She is wise and wonderful, good and gracious, sage and (never) salacious, kind and compassionate.  We have been friends for over a decade, and she always amazes me with her outlook on life, her wit, and her commitment to being better every day.  Her blogs are funny and inspirational, and they reflect the amazing woman, wife, mother, and friend that Kelly is.  I feel privileged to know her and blessed to call her one of my best friends.

And I "stole" the first picture of her I found on her blog -- hope she likes this one ;)

Food Staples

Before NAET, my food staples consisted of chicken, potatoes, rice, and Smartfood White Cheddar Cheese Popcorn.  No offense to the Smartfood people because I have eaten their product almost daily for over a decade, but there is clearly not a lot of actual cheese in their popcorn, because it didn't make me sick.

In hindsight, I was "self-medicating" in a sense.  I was eating only bland foods.  There is not a whole lot of nutritional value in these foods, but it is what I have lived on.

I haven't finished all of my treatments yet, so some foods still give me a reaction, but I can eat vegetables now. And fruits.  And they taste good.  Food used to taste tinny and metallic.  And when I would make myself eat "healthy" food because I knew I needed to do better, I would feel awful.

My next biggest obstacle to conquer is lettuce.

Exchanging Valentines

I had my first experience making Valentines to exchange this year, and it felt like a fun rite of passage.  Ellie helped me pick out the candy at the grocery store, and then I made up some labels.  We took them to Kindermusik to pass out in class.
In our class of 6 children, names include Lynlee, Bailey, Nathan, Ellie, Ella, and another Ellie.  This semester we have been trying to remember to call our Ellie "Eliana," but Miss Leda always forgets -- Eliana has been Ellie for over a year in her class.

Sisterly Love

Just a nice way to start the day, especially on Valentine's Day.  The girls have been getting up between 6:30-7:30 a.m.  Not bad, considering they are usually in bed by 7:30 p.m.
And, this picture demonstrates that Lynnie's glasses really are working.  Her right eye is much more "wander-y" when her glasses are off.

A Friend

At Story Time today, we ran into Amy-Emily's sister Becky and her daughter Brooklyn.  Ellie usually sits with me and Lu during Story Time, but since Brooklyn was there, she went right up and sat by her new friend.  All it took for them to be fast friends was for Brooklyn to tell Ellie that she likes Dora too (since Ellie is wearing her Dora shirt).

Manicure

I wasn't feeling very well, so the girls and I stayed home from Stake Conference.  I felt even more terrible, since it is one of the two times Greg sits with us during the year, but what are you going to do?

One of our activities was to do manicures.  We have a system where I do Ellie's nails first, and then her toes, and then she paints my nails.  Her skills are definitely improving, and it works well because her nails get nice and dry while she is working on mine.  Sometimes I do Lulu's nails next, but she has a hard time letting me hold her fingers still.  We'll do it more as she gets older, I'm sure.

Sharing

We went to Lowe's to pick out ceiling fans for the basement, and each girl got to hold a play bottle.  And check out Ellie's perfect ringlets today (and Lulu's crazy car seat hair).

Feeding Daddy

We met some friends for lunch at the Provo institution of Brick Oven.  Ellie enjoyed her noodles, and Lynlee ate an entire piece of garlic bread.  After Ellie had had enough for herself (it was a huge bowl of noodles), she fed Greg for quite a while.  Anything to keep her entertained!

Lunch at Darci's House

Nina organized a fun "reunion" at Darci's new house.  It was amazing to get together with the Primary ladies again.  Even though I see Julie all of the time, I miss getting together with Nina and Darci the way we used to.  Darci and her family recently moved to Highland, and took on a full gut-job remodel.  The results are beautiful!  More than the setting, it was beautiful to catch up and hang-out with my friends.  I sure love these ladies!

Cache and Tatum were so fun to play with, and really took care of Ellie and Lynnie.  Cache was super sweet and let Ellie tag along with him, getting her toys and feeding her cookies.  She asked for the rest of the day when we could play at Darci's house again.

My favorite room in Darci's house is Brooklyn and Tatum's bedroom.  I love the color scheme and especially the ceiling.  It was so crisp and clean and fresh, and Ellie played there by herself for about 30 minutes.

Peek-a-boo

Ellie has discovered that it is fun to climb in the laundry hampers.  She likes hers because there is a lid that she can close, and she likes Lynnie's because it is longer and she can lay down in it full-length.  Today, Lynnie caught Ellie inside and played peek-a-boo with her sister.

Finally

The light is in at 1200 W and Timpanogos Highway!  That means if we are headed north, we can actually access the road to get to the highway, and do not have to go south to get north.  I rarely drive north anymore, but it is nice to know that there is access again.

Ellie is 2 and a half...

...and what better way to celebrate this half-birthday than by having dinner with Tayler.
We had a wonderful dinner and visit with Tayler and her (drum roll, please) husband!  Tayler is a newlywed, and it was wonderful to meet her husband.  (I forgot to ask him how he feels about pictures and/or his name on the blog, so I will wait to do that until I clear it with him.)

After dinner, Ellie wanted Tayler to do the bath and bedtime routine, and it was wonderful to sneak a picture of their fun.  There was so much giggling!

New Clothes

Lynnie is solidly in 24 month clothes now, so it was time to put away all of her old clothes.  Most of the clothes  in this size are summer clothes, so hopefully she will still fit them when the weather warms back up!
