So Precious

Sometimes they just fall asleep when we are driving, and it is so precious.  We had a bunch of errands to run, but instead I just aimlessly drove around for about 40 minutes to keep them asleep.

We went back to the grocery store for milk later that afternoon.

Ellie and Lulu love their dolls and stuffed animals.  I have bins in each of their closet where we put them away to sleep for the night, but they invariably get pulled out during the day.

Presents from China

Mom went to Shanghai to visit Amy for Christmas, and came home with lots of presents.  This beautiful outfit  was a gift for Ellie from Amy.  Ellie loves to say "cheese" for pictures.  If I want to get a real smile/laugh, I have learned to ask her to say silly words, like pickles or cattywampus.
Ellie was super excited that Grandma had a stuffed Goofy.  She told Aunt Bobi that Goofy says GARSH.  Gotta love movies from the library!

Dora Obsession

Today, Ellie is wearing a Dora shirt Kelly found for me last night in the clearance rack at Target, Dora underwear, a Dora Band-Aid (just because she likes Band-Aids), and Dora socks.

We clearly spend too much time watching Dora, because if you even say the word "Dora," Lynnie will say "MAP!" or "do do do do."

Nail Biter

During Lynlee's nap today, Ellie and I played Candy Land.  After many exciting twists and turns,  I drew the gingerbread man card and had to go back almost to the beginning.  The very next card was a double yellow, and Ellie won!

Finally, naptime

Lulu threw her biggest tantrum to date.  We were driving to meet her birth mom for lunch, and she screamed from Greg's office to the Zupa's in Provo.  She finally fell asleep literally 1 minute before we got to the restaurant.  After she woke up enough to be sociable and ate some lunch, she was very entertaining.

Lu fell asleep less than 3 minutes after we got back in the car on the way home, and then had an almost 3 hour nap.

Lulu Recognizes Quality

I made some rice pudding tonight, using the Lion House Banana Cream Pie recipe as the pudding.  I gave some to Lulu, and she would put a big handful in her mouth, suck off the pudding, and spit out the rice.  She definitely ate the good stuff!

Play Sand

Thanks to Kelly for the idea! We mixed a scant 3 cups of flour with 3/4 cup of baby oil.

Ellie found this cute hat in her miscellaneous drawer, and wore it for about 20 minutes.  It didn't make it out of the house with us, though!

Jessica's Baby Shower

Jessica and Kent are having a baby girl! We had a fun baby shower with them, with fun games (that Trinnie won the most of) and yummy food (including Tammy's famous chicken pasta salad) and nice presents for the happy parents.

Greg is the 3rd of 10 children, and for many, many years there were 5 siblings married and 11 grandchildren.  Todd & Rachel have 5 children, Kyle & Jonette have 3, and Paul & Staci have 3.  As Greg and I watched the grandchildren grow up (and the 5 on my side), we were increasingly worried that by the time we found our birth moms, our children would have no cousins to play with.

We shouldn't have worried so much--there are lots of cousins just the right age for Ellie & Lulu.  Jon & Teri have Gwen, and Scott & Lisette, Rod & Jayme, Tanya & Dave, and now Kent & Jessica have all added fun cousins to the family!

Playing the Piano

Lulu loves to play the piano!  We are spending a lot of time lately in the front room, with Ellie playing with her kitchen and Lu rocking it out on the piano.  It usually lasts until I am tired of telling Lu to stay on her knees or her bum after 20 minutes or so.  She always wants to stand up to reach the buttons better.
Sickness update (and possible TMI):  Ellie is all better, and now Lulu has diarrhea.  She poops through her clothes 6-9 times a day, which translates into lots of extra baths and loads of laundry.  I feel so bad for her!  She is hungry, but doesn't want to eat, and she wants to play, but also just wants to snuggle.  This is her first real sickness (besides a cold) and she is so good-natured about it.

A Box...

..makes the best toy!  Uncle Todd brought over an air scrubber in this big box (to clean our air of the construction smells).  Ellie and Lulu have had a lot of fun playing in it!  I put it away once Ellie figured out she could climb on it, because I didn't want the box to get crushed.

Music Class

I was going to take this semester of Kindermusik off, since Lynnie is not quite old enough for the class.  But our nice teacher Miss Leda talked me into registering both girls, since this is the only chance they have of taking the class together.  In the fall, Ellie will graduate to the 3 year-old class, and she will go all by herself.  We are having fun being there all together!  Ellie is a good helper and gets instruments for Sister.  Lynnie loves to dance and shake all of the instruments.

Guess Who's Sick Now?

Ellie is all better today (thankfully) but Lynlee and I are both sick now.  Lynnie threw up yesterday for the first time in her life.  Poor girl wasn't quite sure what to do with that.

I am feeling marginally better now, since my amazing husband took all of the night shifts and let me sleep/doze/rest for 12 hours.  Lynnie is down for an afternoon nap, Greg is off for a game, and Ellie and I are going to play.

Sometimes it is nice to have slow, lazy days.  It makes me appreciate health and "normal" days so much more.

One of Lynnie's favorite words to say is "DAD!"  She usually draws the A out and pops the D's, so it sounds kind of like Daaaaaa-duh.

She also seems to love having 2 pigtails today.  She will not stop pulling on them!

5:58 p.m.

I thought Ellie was all better, but she woke up this morning with a bad case of diarhhea.  We skipped church and she seemed fine.  Around 5 she was acting super tired, so I got her bathed and ready for bed.  Then she told me she wanted "Daddy Loves" and she drank 1 ounce of milk and fell asleep with Greg.  Before 6 p.m.

She woke up around 9:30 and had another power puking episode all over her and me.  After a quick shower, she was ready for bed again.  She and I spent a lot of time together throughout the night, as Ellie threw up 4 or 5 times more.  Luckily, only one time was in her bed, and it only got on her pillow before she got the rest in her "hiccup bowl."  After another bath, we spent a lot of time snuggling on the couch.  Poor baby!

Jordan & Josh

Greg and I had quite an adventure attending Jordan & Josh's wedding at the Mt Timpanogos Temple. We wanted to do a session before, and got the girls up nice and early. They were so excited to play with Jace, Cassie, and Aunt Rachel, especially since they were also pet-sitting a puppy. We got to the temple and were in the chapel by 9:10 a.m. We were on the second to last row, and missed the 9:30 session by 8 people. Then we moved up to the very front row, confident we would be the first ones done with the session and be ready in plenty of time for a 12:00 sealing.

Well, the 10:00 session was a live endowment, and the family and friends were already seated in the endowment room. They only took 2 rows from the general chapel, so we were on the 2nd to last row in the endowment room. And the session didn't start until 10:15. We were really sweating it then!

We found the right sealing room and slipped in at 11:58. The embarrassing thing is that they were waiting for the Bishop, and as soon as we got there, Jordan and Josh were brought in and things got underway.

Kylene came up from SUU to go to the reception. We had fun hanging out with her for a few minutes! What a fun day.

Playing Dress-Up

I picked up a bunch of costumes on clearance after Halloween.  Ellie loves to dress up, and Lynnie loves to put her necklace and bracelet on and off.

This pic was taken with Greg's iPhone.  Thanks for doing the picture of the day!

Poor baby threw up twice last night and has a fever.  The first time was around 10:30 last night.  She woke up and wanted to go potty and have a little more milk.  (Ellie is totally potty trained now!  She hasn't had an accident in weeks and wakes up dry in the morning -- probably because she wakes me up 1-2 times a night to go potty.)   We ended up just snuggling for a few minutes, because she didn't want the milk after all.  As I was carrying her back to her bed, she power puked.  Timing-wise, it was perfect because she got it on her pj's and we got to the bathroom sink for the rest.  After another bath (sans pink water) and fresh jammies, we snuggled until Greg got home from his basketball game, at which point Ellie only wanted Daddy.  She threw up one more time before she was ready for her bed at 12:30.  Then we were up every 20-30 minutes because she just felt yucky.  No more puking though, which is good.

Poor girl!

Pink Bath Water

I found another new product that we tried tonight.  I thought Ellie would love it, but she ended up hating it.  She was mildly interested as the tub was filling, and that was it.  We had the fastest bath ever, and the whole time she was crying about the pink water and how it was hurting her...
Update:  The next day, once she felt better, we tried blue bath water and she did love it!  Ellie talked the whole time about how she couldn't wait to try the yellow water the next night...

Going for a Walk

It doesn't feel like January weather, so we put on hats and mittens and took a walk. I put Lulu in the single stroller and Ellie happily "helped" me push her. We went down the street and around the corner, and Ellie asked, "can we play with DaveDave?" So we knocked on the door, they were home, and we spent an enjoyable hour together!

It's Good to Have Connections

Greg and David cleaned and scrubbed the basement floor.  What a difference to have all of the construction mess gone!  After the tile guys are finished, Greg said they will give it a final scrub so it will be perfect before the carpet goes down.

Standing Alone

Lynlee is doing really well at standing alone for a few seconds, and she can take1-2 steps on her own!  It is really exciting stuff.  I tried taking a picture of her standing by myself, but it didn't really work, so we tried when Greg was home for dinner.  Well, Lulu was hungry herself and did not want to stand by herself for a picture!  We quickly abandoned the attempt to get that perfect moment and had dinner instead.

Sit Up!

Ellie spent quite a few minutes getting Lambie and Barney to sit up just so, and then she carefully put her favorite blankie on them (a super soft Hello Kitty blanket that was a Christmas present from Grandma Linda).

Dinner Time

Lynnie and I have reached an eating understanding.  She will eat baby foods and oatmeal if I give her her own spoon.  She will feed herself a bite and then eat a bite from my spoon.  Eventually, she always ends up with both spoons.

This picture doesn't do Lynnie's cute, messy face and hands justice.  She had sweet potatoes everywhere.  I love it!

Favorite Rice

Ellie loves this beef rice that Jonette introduced us to years ago. I try to make it 2-3 times a month, and Ellie will eat the leftovers for days.

My Ellie adaptation (the real recipe is made even yummier by slicing an onion into it):

1 can beef broth
1 can beef consomme
1 c rice
2-4 T butter, cut up

Mix all together in a 9x13 pan and bake at 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Sunday, January 1, 2012

Ellie and Lynnie have discovered that they can jump really well on the green chair and ottoman.  After Lynnie bounces for a while, she always launches herself off of the ottoman onto the floor.  We ring it with pillows to keep her safe.
