Peaches

For book club tonight, I made peach cobbler using fresh peaches from our tree.  Yum!  This is the first year we have gotten any kind of crop from our tree, and it has been wonderful.

Teeth!

Lynlee has her first teeth poking through, the two on the bottom.  What a big girl!

Last Fit Well appointment?

We have our 3 month check-up with the cranial specialist a week from Wednesday, and I am hopeful that he will say Lynnie is done with her helmet then.  In my eyes, her head is the exact shape of her helmet, so she should be done now!  I am even more hopeful when the Fit Well guy said that her head looked done to him, and he only made 2 small adjustments to the fit to get us through to next week.

Let the countdown begin!

Dinner with Robyn, Kevin, and Mom

Robyn, Kevin, and Mom came over for dinner tonight.  R & K are headed back to California after a week at the cabin.  We made mock Cafe Rio and were proud to serve Kevin his first ever taco salad, albeit an upscale version.

Bathrooms

After wiping noses and being up (more than I regularly am) at night all week, I was worn out by Saturday.  Greg stepped up and did the nicest thing he could for me at that moment -- he scrubbed all of the bathrooms.  And I mean, he scrubbed them! I truly have the best husband in the world.

First time...

...climbing the slide.  We had an awesome time playing at one of our favorite parks, and I didn't think Ellie's shoe choice through very carefully before we left.  I put sandals on her, and then the bark chips got in, so E did the only sensible thing and took her shoes off.  She has watched bigger kids climb up the slides all summer, and she tried it tonight.  With bare feet, she scampered right up!  Then she climbed slides for at least an hour.  And it took about that long for Greg to stop being nervous about her falling off the side.

Lulu's Favorite Toy

Lulu's favorite toy right now is this turtle drum.  It lights up and makes drum noises when you pound on it.  And there are a couple of buttons that make it play salsa music and rip out drum beats.

...sick...

Both of the babies have had runny noses and fevers, and Ellie also has a cough.  It is so hard because there is not much I can do for them, outside of baby ibuprofen and Vicks' baby rub.  After a couple of doses, Lynnie has figured out how to spit the medicine back out -- not great.  Ellie has gotten to the stage where I can bribe her to take her medicine -- she can choose to have 4 Jelly Bellies or a handful of marshmallows after she takes it.

I Help Her Feel Better

Lynlee has a runny nose, and since Ellie is such a big helper, she wanted to hold Lynnie to help her feel better.  E said, "I hold her, she feel better."  Clearly, Lynnie did not appreciate the sentiment.

Naptime

I had a dentist appointment this afternoon, so Greg came home from work to be with the girls. I got back in the middle of naptime, and found Lynlee asleep in her crib, and the other two fast asleep in the chair. Apparently Ellie told Daddy she wanted to snuggle after she drank her pre-nap milk, and snuggling quickly turned into snoozing.

Drawing Circles

Ellie likes to color and draw, and when I asked her to draw me a circle, she did this.

Jen, Nathan & Abby

Robyn & Kevin had a party to celebrate their marriage and we had a good time visiting with family members.  Jen, Nathan, and Abby Gail came down from Idaho Falls, and we had a great time going to dinner with them before the party.  Jen and I are only a week apart in age, and we have always had a special cousin bond.  Even though it has been a year since I have seen her, it was awesome to catch up -- and it was like we were just together a few days ago.

Swing

The park was the busiest we have ever seen it, so we took turns in the same swing.  Ellie was a big helper and loved pushing Lynlee.  It made Lynlee laugh and laugh!

Tricycle

I ordered a pink tricycle for Ellie for her birthday from amazon.com, because I get free 2-day shipping as a result of buying my diapers from them (cheaper per diaper than Costco, and delivered right to my door -- I am so grateful Whitney T told me about the Amazon Mom club).  I didn't realize until after I placed the order that it was going to be fulfilled by target.com, and thus didn't qualify for free OR 2-day shipping.  The trike came on the Monday after Ellie's birthday, and one of the pedals was broken.  (And as a side note, the three times I have ordered from target.com have all had negative outcomes.  I thought I had already learned my lesson after it happening to me twice, and now I have learned my lesson again and will double-check on amazon who the order is coming from.)

Ellie had, of course, been so excited and helped me empty the box.  Once the pedal was found broken, I realized I couldn't put the trike together, and boxed it all back up.  Then I had a sad girl...

After the rigamarole of talking with customer service (very nice and friendly on the amazon end, not so friendly on the target end) and taking the box to a UPS store to send back, a replacement tricycle finally arrived.  And Ellie helped me put it together.
Ellie is still a little too small to reach both pedals at the same time.  After we experimented for a while, she decided to share with Lambie.  You can see that Lambie is driving Barney around (he is in the basket).

Goodbye, Brayden!

Elder Spencer entered the MTC today in preparation for his mission in South Dakota. He's the oldest grandchild, and this is quite a happy/sad day for the family. We will miss him, and also know he is doing the Lord's work. Brayden will be a fantastic missionary!

I Wake Lynlee!

We were getting ready to go, and I told Ellie I needed to wake up Lynlee.  E immediately said, "I wake Lynlee!" and took off running for her room.  By the time I got there, E had climbed up and was talking to her sister.

Bye, Ky!

Kylene heads south to SUU tomorrow. We luckily got to enjoy lunch at P.F. Changs with her.

So close to crawling!

Lynlee is so close to crawling! She gets up in the position, and just tonight tried to move her arms.

Families Supporting Adoption National Conference

Greg and I have been attending the FSA National Conference, and it has been wonderful!  Sister Julie B. Beck was the opening speaker, and she was (as always) fabulous.  One concept she talked about was interesting; she said that when the Relief Society first officially organized a Social Services division in the 1920s, the main focus was on parent-less children, orphans because of disease or war, who needed families to live with.  Today, the focus of LDS Family Services is on child-less parents, and creating families through the miracle of adoption.

Hailey took excellent care of Ellie and Lynlee, and Greg & I are already looking forward to next year!

People Who Have Influenced My Life

McKinzie

I have known the beautiful McKinzie since she was a kindergartener, and she is about to be a Junior in High School.  She was one of my first piano students when we moved to our first house in Lehi.  She broke her arm in a freak chase-my-brother-across-the-wood-floor-and-slip accident and it delayed our start for a few months, but she has been going strong ever since.  She is now a ward organist and a piano teacher herself, as well as an oboist (and a baritonist in the marching band).

I love Kinz so much!  I have always tried to claim her as a daughter.  For years I had a tradition in piano to reward the students' practicing efforts by letting them earn an 8-week treat (a non-creative name wherein if they met their practicing goal for 8 straight weeks, I would take them and a friend out for ice cream).  I started the tradition so that I would have an excuse to spend more time with Kinz, and she never disappointed.  I don't think she ever missed a week of practicing in 11 years!  Sometimes I would get so behind (in those days I was teaching 3 classes at the U and averaged 27 piano students) that I would owe Kinz 3-4 treats...

Kinzie is so gorgeous, inside and out.  I hope she knows how talented and accomplished and genuinely good she is.  I think the only regret semi-disappointment I have in adopting Ellie and Lynlee is that I spend less time with Kinz and her family.  They are some of my favorite people in the whole world, but today I am only talking about Kinz.

Kinz is considerate, compassionate, and quick-witted.  She is friendly and a little shy and amazingly talented.  She meets the challenges in her life with a good attitude and an "I can do it" spirit.

I love that she told me today that she and her friends are total Mollys.  I hope she always stays a Molly Mormon, and I want to be just like her when I grow up!

A Quiet Moment

I headed in to the U today for the annual part-time instructor's luncheon, and realized I haven't set foot in my office since the beginning of last December.  It was semi-surreal to be at the luncheon with my friends Beth, Carrie, and Alisa.  We have all been teaching there part-time for years, and we all started as young (young-ish, in my case), married women.  Now Beth is pregnant with baby #3, Alisa has 2 girls, and Carrie has a son.  I remember when Carrie and Beth started the baby revolution being ecstatic for them but thinking my day would never come.  What a difference 3 years makes!  I am so glad that I have had the job I had, and that now I can teach one class a semester completely online (which takes only a couple of hours a week) and focus on Ellie and Lynlee.

I am grateful beyond words to be a mother, and now it is rare to have a quiet moment completely by myself.  As I was driving back and forth I took advantage of the empty car, and found myself thinking a lot about faith.  Do I have enough?  How do I teach faith to the girls?  Will they grow up with a testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored church?

While thinking about all of this, I was listening to a wonderful album called The Lower Lights.  I had a moment on the way home while listening to The Lord Is My Shepherd.  The Spirit whispered to me, "Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief" (Mark 9:24).  I still worry that I have enough faith, but I feel peace now.  It will all work out.

Doctor's Appointments

We were able to schedule Lynlee's 9 month doctor appointment and Ellie's 2 year old appointment on the same day, which was really nice.  I love how this picture shows the girls playing while sitting next to each other.  A minute later, Ellie was rubbing Lynlee's tummy and making her laugh.

Driving

We took Ellie's car outside for the first time today. She is a pro inside and needed more space to practice. She did fabulously downhill, and couldn't quite get back up the hill. And this super cute outfit was a gift from Tayler.

Reading Stories with Tayler

Tayler came over for dinner tonight to celebrate Ellie's birthday (the 4th) and her birthday (the 6th).  It was a wonderful evening!

People Who Have Influenced My Life

Greg
Greg is my best friend.  He is kind, compassionate, loving, selfless, organized, easy to talk to, motivated, successful, and deals with stress well.  I am so grateful he stuck with me all of those years ago and "convinced" me to marry him.  My life is so full and rich because he is a part of it.

Playing in the Basement

Ellie loves to play in the basement; all that room to run!  Lynlee enjoyed playing in the pool, until Ellie stole all of the balls.

Russell's Wedding Rehearsal

Russ & Nikki are getting married tomorrow, and tonight was the rehearsal and a dinner.  Aunt Chris and Uncle Steve had the dinner catered from Cafe Rio.  And Cafe Rio in any form is delicious.
