I can walk far!

Last night, we witnessed a walking break-through! Ellie went all the way across the family room at Grandma's house many times. She stopped and started, and when she fell she would immediately get back up. She even stood up without putting her hands on the floor to push herself up. Way to go, Ellie!

Andrew stair jumping

We had a nice dinner at Tanya and Dave's house tonight, and then Andrew showed off his latest trick. Tanya scooted their love sac over to the bottom of the stairs, Andrew scampered up, and swan dived down! It was funny. He did it over and over, and every time he had perfect form!

Closing the Closet Door

Ellie figured out how to open and close her closet today.  She was so intent on doing it!
This smart girl has added at least a dozen signs to her vocabulary in the last 2 days.  Ellie also loves to point at people in pictures (especially Dad).  Yesterday, we were looking at the photo gallery, and I asked her where Davis was.  Ellie pointed right to him.  So I asked her where Tayler was.  And Ellie pointed right to her.  Ellie also correctly pointed to Tammy, Gwen, and Brayden.

She did it again today, and said ELLIE when she pointed to herself!!!!!

Laundry Basket

Ellie likes to "help" me do laundry.  She especially loves to push the basket around.  Today she flipped it over and climbed up.  What a big girl!

Party with Aunt Jo and Aunt Shannon

Greg, Ellie, and I met some friends for dinner tonight, and then afterwards dropped by Aunt Jo and Uncle Merrill's house. Ellie fell asleep in the car on the way back from Orem, and that 20 minute nap gave her a second wind. She was hilarious and performing for everyone! She walked quite a bit. She is starting to get more and more brave and taking 10-20 steps at a time.

Jonette and the kids are here for a few days during their Fall Break. We drove Kaysen down to play with Dallin & Parker, and Kiera did awesome entertaining the younger set.

More Steps

Ellie is getting bolder about taking steps on her own!

Tyler and I played "Come, Follow Me" today in Sacrament Meeting.  We did quite awesome, if I do say so myself.  Tyler is turning into quite an accomplished pianist!  Uncle Merrill was conducting, and made a funny comment when he was announcing us.  He said something to the effect of, "I'm sorry, Tyler, but when your father is in the bishopric and your piano teacher is married to the Bishop, you are going to get put to work sooner or later."

In other news, Greg had Ellie with him during the last hour of church since I was teaching a lesson in Relief Society.  Ellie walked for 4 steps, and only stopped because she reached out her hands to grab a hold of Greg's knee!  Official steps = full-scale walking right around the corner!

Those of you who know us, know that Ellie's special object is TURTLE.  We picked this because Tayler loves turtles, and it has been fun for me to have a "theme" for Ellie - and fun for the manufacturers of anything that has a turtle in it (because I am sure to buy it).  So we are surrounded by anything and everything turtles.

And yesterday, Ellie said the word "turtle" for the first time!
...a selection of Ellie's many turtles...

Sister Day

Elizabeth & Davis, and Ellie & I visited Sister Day today.  We had a nice chat and stayed for just a few minutes.

Ellie is absolutely in love with Elizabeth.  Whenever we get together, she always has to sit in Elizabeth's lap.  Davis is usually fine with this, but at Sis Day's house, he also wanted to sit in his mom's lap.  Elizabeth does not have an ample lap, so there was grumpiness and chaos ensued.

Needless to say, we left.

72 hour kit

My mom is teaching a class on 72 hour kits at her ward's Relief Society Meeting next week, so she asked if she could borrow my 72 hour kit as a visual aid. She is coming over tonight to go through it with me. I loved taking the opportunity to review everything - I will definitely need to switch out food and add in Ellie things when it comes back!

Ellie's first pony ride

Today we went to the farm at Thanksgiving Point with Elizabeth & Davis, and Whitney, Holly, Rhett, & Zane.  The highlight was Ellie's first pony ride!  She was very hesitant at first about being put in the saddle, and so I just held her until right as the ponies were started.  Then she loved it - and when we were done and walking away, Ellie held her hands out and tried to go back to the pony.

Adoption Training

Greg and I attended training classes this weekend on adoption, and the classes were wonderful.  We took these classes almost 4 years ago when we got approved the first time, and it has been so interesting to take them again with a different perspective.  Last time, I was caught up in the how-do-I-make-our-profile-so-cute-and-beat-out-all-of-our-competition.  This time, I thought a lot about Ellie and Tayler, and our relationship with Tayler and her family.  Every adoption experience is so unique, and I was really struck with gratitude with how wonderful Tayler is, and how we have (at least in our perspective) built a healthy relationship together.  I also could not thinking about how much love is experienced and shown by birth parents and adoptive parents.  Adoption truly is all about love.

Switching out sizes and seasons

Ellie is 14 months old and I am just now moving her into 12-18 month clothes.  She got a lot of mileage out of her 9-12 month clothes, wearing them for just over 5 months.  Bring on the bigger outfits, the long-sleeved outfits, and the beautiful fall weather!

Ellie played with our friends today while Greg and I had an appointment.  She loves to play with Hailey (and Julie, Nick, and Brian)!
I clearly did not check this picture before we left.  Guess Ellie does close her eyes when the flash goes off sometimes...

Sunday Morning

We were very impressed with Ellie this morning.  I put some of our omelet with sausage, mushroom, green pepper, and onion on her tray, and she ate a piece of sausage and said "yummm."  Then she ate a piece of mushroom and said "yummm." Then I was so excited that I got the camera out to document this historic moment.

And she would not eat another bite.

Ellie had fun reading an economics book with Laurieann. We're training her up young...
