Ellie has slept like this for months.  It is so cute - and obviously she thinks it is comfortable!

President Brown's funeral

Greg's mission president passed away on Sunday and we have spent the morning at the funeral. It has been nice to see old friends and catch up with some people that Greg has not seen in almost 20 years. Ellie fell asleep on the way to the cemetary.
Jeff and Rob, Margaret, Shelby, and Kobe stayed with us last night and we stayed up til 1 a.m. laughing and reminiscing. Jeff is hilarious! He had us in stitches all night long. Funerals are nice in that it brings us together. It haa been nice to revisit mission stories and mission memories.

Post Op

Greg's mom had surgery yesterday on her back.  She is home now and everything went really well.  Jonette and the kids came down for the week and crammed in all of the last minute things - school clothes shopping, eating at their favorite places, haircuts, Kylene's Senior pictures (seriously, time goes by SOOOO fast), and helping with Daniel.
Mom so wanted to have her picture taken after getting home from the hospital...

Tonight Ellie ate chicken and LOVED it.  She gobbled it up as quickly as I would give it to her.  We are making progress lately, mostly because she seems to always be hungry and always wants to eat.  Jonette says it is because she is making up for being sick.  And she did not really eat for about 10 days, so that makes sense.

In the past week, she has licked apples, corn, beans, and carrots, and eaten soda crackers, bread, and peanut butter (on accident!) in addition to her standards of graham crackers and Cheerios.  Last night I was eating an apple with peanut butter, and Ellie really wanted some.  She licked the apple and then dropped it, and kept on reaching out her hand.  So I put a little pb on my finger, never dreaming that she would actually touch it - she normally turns her head the other way and purses her lips.  To my surprise, she licked my finger.  Oops.

No more peanuts for at least a year, I promise!

New beginnings

There is something about the first day of a new semester that brings out the kid in me. Everything is fresh. Everything is new. Anything is possible this time around.

Grandma Linda gave Ellie some hair rubber bands for her birthday.  Ellie sure looks cute with a ponytail!  All of a sudden she is looking so grown-up to me.  She looks like a toddler and not like a baby.  That is sad.  I don't really want her to grow up...

Smart Baby

Ellie has been doing all sorts of smart things lately.  For example, today it was raining when we got home from the store, and we stood in the garage to look at it.  I just said the word "rain" and Ellie signed it - for the first time.

The other day, Ellie was playing with this phonics-electronic thingie that Nina and Lexi gave her for her birthday (hand-me-downs from Lexi).  E pushed the D, which barks like a dog, and then immediately signed "dog."  Another example - Ellie spotted 2 things that go together on opposite sides of the room (more hand-me-downs from Lexi), and crawled around to put them together. This pig is Ellie's favorite figurine from the set.  Maybe because it is pink?

During my library board meeting tonight, Ellie partied with Hailey.  They love each other so much!  After Hailey took Ellie, I said that I should go, and Ellie immediately started waving "bye-bye" to me.  I am glad that she was so excited to play with Hailey!

P.S.  This is my first picture taken with my new phone's camera - 8 megapixels.  Pretty cool.

Nice Friends

We have really nice friends! Traci and Paige brought us dinner yesterday, and Julie and Hailey brought Eeyore - because he and Ellie have the same sad expression on their faces.

At the doctor...

So, we have been doing a good job keeping Ellie hydrated, but she has dropped about a pound and a half since last Tuesday. The doctor said it looks like she has a virus that just has to run its course. I hate seeing her miserable, and I hope it doesn't last much longer!

On the Mend

Today Ellie seems to be doing a little better.  Our home teacher came over last night and helped Greg give her a blessing.  So far today, Ellie has had four 2-ounce bottles and has not thrown them up.  She is still sleeping almost constantly, but it seems to be deeper and less restless, and hopefully more healing.

Ellie makes this really pathetic face.  It is so hard, because she doesn't know what she wants - she just knows she doesn't feel good.  And she shows it on her face...

Poor Baby

Poor Ellie has not been feeling well for the past 28 hours.  This afternoon, she had a stretch where she did not throw up for about 4 hours, and seemed to be doing better.  So I put in a Baby Signing Time dvd, and Ellie just laid back on a pillow and kind of zoned out.

Hailey Rocks!

I had to run to my office today for a couple of hours (to move rooms), and Hailey came over and played with Ellie.  Ellie LOVES Hailey.  Last Sunday, E & I sat in front of Hailey (and her family), and Ellie practically vaulted out of my arms and then sat with Hailey for a long time.  It was Ward Conference, so we were sustaining people, and Ellie-the-Mimic was sustaining people too.  We would raise our arms, and then Ellie would raise hers.

I knew Hailey was taking excellent care of Ellie, and the best part is that I came home to a sleeping baby and picked up toys!
P.S.  Ellie threw up tonight 7 or 9 or a million times (I lost count).  The first two times were pretty spectacular (first ALL over Greg, and then all over me), and after that there was nothing left to lose.  Watching your baby dry heave is not fun.  Greg got some Pedialyte on his way home from his meetings, and Ellie drank about 5 ounces over a 45 minute period.  She has kept it down for an hour now and is sound asleep on Greg's chest.  Hopefully she is done with the throwing up and on the mend.

Birthday Balloons

Ellie loves to play with her birthday balloons - although it is definitely an activity that must be monitored.

Opening Present

Time has gotten away from us the past few days, and Ellie had not yet opened her birthday present from us.  Well, she found the package this morning and opened it on her own!  E got out one of her turtle presents, but could not get the other one out of the bag.  It sure was cute to watch her try for it.

Gotcha Day

A year ago today we GOT Ellie. What a special anniversary for us!  Because Tayler is such a huge part of this event, I dressed Ellie in this adorable sunflower outfit that Tayler gave E for her birthday.

Last can of formula?

I was so excited to switch Ellie to real milk yesterday. But here's a big shocker. Ellie didn't like it. Now I will follow Linda's advice and mix milk and formula, increasing the milk portion week by week. So far, so good on this plan.

And this cute orange dress was a birthday present from Tayler.

Saying Goodbye

Jon, Travis, Sarah, Gwen and Mom and Amy came over for dinner tonight and we said good-bye.  Travis and Sarah are headed back to their mom's house.  Travis kept Ellie entertained all night long!

What a nice helper.  Putting her to work sure is fun - at least until Daddy takes her "toy" away...
