Toy Basket

Ellie is most content playing on her tummy now, which is really fun because when she was 0-6 months old, she HATED being on her tummy.  She just got stuck in the toy basket!

Sew Sisters

Today was another "meeting" of the Sew Sisters.  I love hanging out for a while every time they meet!  Elizabeth and I just come for moral support.  Joanna had to leave for about an hour for a PTA meeting, and I got there right after she left, and then left right before she got back.  Silly girl missed the photo opp!

Waking Up

We put Ellie down to sleep with a binkie, and she always spits it out once she is asleep.  Lately, she has started scooting all over her crib, finding her binkie and putting it back in by herself.

Oatmeal

In the attempt to entice Ellie to eat "real" food, last night we put her in her brand-new high chair and gave her some Cheerios to play with.  She enjoyed herself for about 10 minutes, and not one Cheerio ever got near her lips.  Tonight, I made up some baby oatmeal really thick, and let Ellie play with it.  At one point, she did bring the glob to her lips, but they were closed, and as soon as the oatmeal touched her lips she grimaced and pulled the glob away as fast as she could.
That looks appetizing, doesn't it?

Jr/Sr Festival

Zack, McKinzie, and Tyler played in Festival today.  I think they are all glad that it is finally over.

K&J

Kyle and Jonette et al. were in town for a couple hours (they are on their way to a resort in Mexico in the morning - not by any of the drug cartel shootings).  We had a bbq with some of our favorite people.  Jay played with Ellie for a long time.  Ellie would drop a spoon, and Jay would pick it up, and then she would LAUGH and bounce.  It was so cute.  I already liked Jay, but now he is one of my favorites because he played with my baby and entertained her so well.

Story Time

Elizabeth, Davis, Ellie, and I tried out Story Time today at the library for the first time.  It was fun, and the babies sat pretty well.  They especially liked the music.

Festival

Festival for the older kids is on Saturday, and Kinz, Zack, and Tyler have been working hard to get ready for it.  It was fun to hear them all one last time before the big performance.  I would say that Zack and Tyler are a lot like me - deadline motivated (not procrastinators!).  They will be ready in time.  And McKinzie plays with such expression and musicality.  I am so proud of them for working hard, and I am sure they will all do great.

Busy, busy, busy

Ellie loves to watch Baby Signing Time and play with her toys.  She has been dancing a lot today to the music, and is just so busy watching and playing.

Job Fair

This morning I had the pleasure of going to Ian's Eagle Scout project to teach a class on personal financial management.  I was able to chat with 4 people, and really enjoyed my time getting to know them.  I also had fun talking with Jeff F. and Eric G. for a while - those 2 are hilarious!

Then I came home and got right in bed.  For the first time since before Ellie came home, I am sick.  Fever, stuffed nose, all the yuckiness.  But I am taking it easy and watching North and South in my bedroom and Greg is entertaining half of his family as they watch March Madness.

Zilch

Rod, Kelly, Leesa, Tammy, Greg, Ellie, and I had fun eating dinner and playing games.

Beeping

In the middle of the night, the smoke alarm in our bedroom starting beeping, letting us know that the battery was low.  What a propitious time for that to happen....  Greg changed the battery this morning, after I stared at the ceiling for the better part of 4 hours.  What a view.

Notes

Thanks to Leah N. for teaching a class at the last Relief Society Meeting on how to love our spouses, I took her tip to write notes on the mirror with a dry erase marker.  It is so fun to leave notes for each other!

Uncle Rod

Greg's parents' dishwasher overflowed a few weeks back and caused their wood floor to warp and  saturated the basement ceiling.  In the process of getting everything fixed, they have to have the wood floor resanded and sealed and whatever else they do.  So they are spending the week in the hotel.  Because of that, we are lucky enough to have Rod stay with us this week!  He is so much fun to have around, and Ellie just giggles and laughs at him.
P.S.  It was so nice out today (for the first time this year) that I put E in short sleeves.  Yeah!

Mirror

Ellie loves to play with the plastic mirror in her crib.  It is so cute to go and get her after a nap and find her watching you in the mirror.

P.S.             Beware the Ides of March!

One of my high school English teachers (Sophomore year? Mrs. Travers?) made a big deal about the Ides of March. I do not really remember much about them, other than that they are the 15th of March, and it was also her daughter's birthday, and it has something to do with Julius Caesar.  (Amy, do you remember?)

Found Shoe

We made it home from Brayden and Clayton's basketball game minus one shoe.  I was so sad, and hoped it fell out of the diaper bag in the car, or in the garage.  It hadn't.

I figured it was gone forever.

Luckily, Rachel came tonight with the missing shoe!  She found it in the church parking lot when she went back on Saturday morning for a choir practice.  It is a small thing, but a tender mercy.  I needed to feel like people were watching out for me today.

Peeker

Ellie loves peeking at us - around the corner, or below the bar on her jumper, or by pulling on her car seat cover.  It is so cute!

Church Ball

Greg, Ellie, and I went to watch our nephews Brayden and Clayton play in their Regional basketball game.  It was fun to watch them run up and down the court - and hard to take a good action shot with my point-and-shoot camera.  Their team lost, but gave a good fight.

Library Gala

Tonight was the annual Library Gala, a fundraising event which (shockingly) raises funds for the library.  My first library board meeting was spent planning the gala, and I asked if Jon Schmidt's cellist was coming.  At that point, he wasn't.  So, my first contribution to the whole process was to get them to invite Steven Sharp Nelson to come as well, and everyone agreed it was great to have them both!  Their interplay is hilarious.

Amy and I spent a few minutes before the event started chatting with Jon and Steve (it sounds so cool to say that!), and they are just as funny and personable in a small setting as they are when they are performing.  If you are not familiar with Jon Schmidt, go to his website - he has pretty much all of his songs available to listen to for free.

So a successful fundraiser, and a great concert!

6 Month Doctor Visit

Our doctor has been out of town, so we delayed Ellie's 6 month well-child check-up until today (when she is 7 months and 6 days old).  She has not grown very much since her 4 month visit, which our doctor said is fine and normal.  I do not know that her percentiles are accurate.  Do they base them off of 6 months old, even though she is 7 months old?  Anywho, here is the info:

Length:  27 inches ~ 75th percentile
Weight: 17 pounds 6 ounces ~ 50th percentile
Head: 44.75 cm ~ 90th percentile

Harry Potter Audiobooks

I finished listening to the last Harry Potter audiobook today.  I have been listening to them for 10  months, and I am sad to be done!  What am I going to listen to now?

Out with the old...

Today was our last day serving as the Primary Presidency.  I have loved working with Darci, Nina, and Julie!  I have learned so much from these ladies, and I am sad that we will not be having weekly meetings anymore.  The Primary will be in good hands with the new presidency.  Good luck to them!

Festival

Today was Festival for the Elementary-school aged kids.  I forgot to take a picture of Jace and Cassie, but Madelin, Sadie, and Syreese smiled so pretty for the camera.  They all did awesome!

Spring Storm

Gotta love the contradiction - lots of snow and almost 60 degrees outside?

(OK, our temperature gauge is buried under the snow, and weather.com said it is 35 degrees, but it feels warm to me!)

Bulletin Board

I only go to work for a few hours on Monday afternoon, and I always miss Ellie a lot!  I have a bulletin board on the wall with some of my favorite pics of her, so it makes me miss her even more....
